hmmm, in my experience with damselfish (which isn't much) the bowties usually have blue bottom fins and change color when older to all black. Yellow damselfish are yellow on top with whitish bodies. I always like them in the fish store but never get them. I was also under the assumption that damselfish and Chromis are in the same family. Sunshine Chromis have purple in the body.
Yes they are as well as clown fish. just asking because from what I have read the sunshine chromis is much more peaceful than the yellow damsel or bowtie damsel.
Thanks, I think it is what it is and I hope doesn't cause havoc with new tank mate. Sometimes behavior is a individual kind of thing more than species, but I like my chances if it is a chromis insolata than other wise...
Update picture 2+ year later of the guy. He has been a great comunity fish so far, always is the first in the hazing process of new addicion but is only to show who is boss and after establishing that he will leave them alone.
Just a caution: there's a reason chromis are separated out from damsels: dascyllus damsels hate them with an abiding passion. Chromis are also prone to assassinate their lowest member until they reach a number they feel comfy with.
