Fish in hypo right now .. any suggestions?

OKAY OKAY OKAY.... I am now (after 18mo) learning the hard way about QT.... i had my tank setup for sometime.... many fish- anthias, chromis, wrasses', tangs, gobies, etc.. never a problem until recently... ich got a hold of most of the fish and well... anyway after removing aove 150#s of LR we got the last sneaky wrasse and finally and have the fish in qt.....

any suggestions on keeping them happy for the time being??
best way to keep ph up and etc?

Frequent water tests.

Buffer the water with washing soda for pH issues. Yes, the longer the hypo the lower the pH will drop.

For food grade Washing Soda - take baking soda and bake at a low temp for about an hour in the oven. Watch out it is caustic.

We have had two tangs bloat while in hypo and start having swim bladder issues, we think due to a problem with the kidneys backing up, swelling, and putting pressure on the swim bladder. Both occurrences happened after a degrade in water quality. Good news is both fish recovered after being raised back up out of hypo.

Just some food for thought.

im adding small doses of the wm and testing reg for the calcium and alk levels... testing ph too.....
any idea how mcuh baking soda to add? the tank is 20g

I wouldn't worry about testing for cal and alk. Using baked baking soda will raise your alk and ph. It's a lot easier if you use a ph monitor. Just keep your ph from big swings, in my QT sometimes drops around 7.7 at 1.009. How big is your QT tank? you can use eggcrate to make compartments if you see agreesion. Get ready to do lots of water changes

the tank is a 20g(tall) i am using a aqua clear filter- i keep the media in my sump so its ready to go when i need to setup the QT.. throw that in the filter and add old tank water.. everything is good to go salinity is a 1.010.. going to bring it down the rest of the way today when i siphon out the crap on the bottom aslo using a small powerhead for aeration

there is a 1" blue tang, 2" flame angel, 2 tiny wrasses, 1 green chromis and a tiny goby. just using 2" PVC couplings, some smaller t's- some ziptied togther and some not...

nobody is fighting and all are eating good

Good luck, sounds like it's going great make sure you mark with a marker the water level once you reach 1.009 so it's easier to know when it's time to add top off water to keep salinity constantly, and check your ph at least couple of times a day.

keep in mind..hypo will be more hit/miss..even with refractometer usage.
with a small qt like yours..any evap will slighty raise the sg and that could compromise the success of the treatment at any time.
basically making you begin again. not fun

Cu is a more direct treatment; if measured accurately, a 1 shot deal. you will not have to worry much about Ph either.

to raise ph if needed just add small quantity of lime water.

very good recommendation.....if you see it below the mark you will know treatment has been compromised and you must begin again.

i did mark the water level at the beginning of the hypo so its been consistant... thanks for the help!

there are mixed opinions on the length i should keep them in though.... lets hear yours
