Fish Size???

Hello everyone,

For those who don't know I am in unique position as I live in one of the best diving spots in the world...Okinawa. I have been finishing picking my live rock from the ocean for the past week or so. My water parameters have settled down, coralline is growing on the rock and glass, cleaner crew is pretty much complete and now I would like to go snag a fish or two to keep my @&!%# damsels company. My question is what should my size limit be for a 55 gallon long? I wanted a tang but heard that is probably not good idea. Here is my species list that are potential candidates: blennies, clownfish, lionfish, wrasse and of course I'm still thinking about the tangs. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Josh

Life teaches me another cruel truth!! Life is just not FAIR!!! I want to go shopping for my LR in the ocean too. But here in Amarillo there is not much "water" period!!!:sad1:

Well If you did want to get a lionfish, then you could have to get a dwarf lion so it wouldn't outgrow your tank. I would stay away from all tangs only because 55 gallon tank isn't that wide and they need lots of room. What kind of wrasse did you want to get?

What kind of wrasse do I want? I guess whatever kind I can catch! The one thing about catching your fish is you can't be too picky. I did find out that the lawnmower blennies are pretty plentiful here and I have seen them a lot so I am thinking about getting one of those.

Well you don't want to catch a fish you don't know anything about. I guess the good thing is you could always catch him, put him in a bucket, do some research and if he won't be good for your tank then put him back. I do also want to point out that wild fish can bring in many diseases and I would recomend setting up a hospital tank and qt all the fish you catch for atleast 6-8 weeks.

Blennies, gobies and wrasses would all work. You may find that after a bit you want a larger tank and then you can go for a tang. One good thing is that you can return your fish easily to the LFS!

Usually I don't have to dive any deeper than 15 feet to get the fish that I am after. It seems that once you go deeper you are in big fish territory. Thanks for the advice everyone!
