Ok, My new 1000L tank arrives Tuesday (in 3 days) And my wife and I put together the following list:
  • Emperor Angel (juvenile)
  • Bicolor Angel
  • Copperband Butterflyfish
  • Pearlscale Butterflyfish
  • Spotted Unicornfish (Naso)
  • Hippo Blue Tang
We currently have:
  • Lg Naso Tang
  • Dogface Puffer
  • Spinyback Puffer
  • Yellow tang
  • and a percula clown

Suggestions? Did we do ok?

I know that sounds like a lot of water, in my opinion, its not really big enough for even one naso, let alone a unicorn, hippo and an emperor angel.

The rest look ok, except for the copper band, which is a bit wimpy for a moderately aggressive tank with puffers and tangs. Your yellow tang will likely bully it, too.

if thats your "big tank" then i wouldn't put a naso in there unless he is small and you plan on upgrading, but seeing as how you just got the tank, i highly doubt you would so i would skip the naso.

Even though the amount of water is enough for the fish you listed, unfortunately the dimensions are not. Naso (and unicorn) tangs and emperor angels all get above 15" adult-size and require a minimum of 8 feet of "straight-through" swimming distance. Had your tank been a standard 8-foot 240g, it would have been appropriate. Remember, when picking fish species you cannot go by the total amount of water as that determines how many fish you can keep, not what type of fish. Tank dimensions play the major role in deciding the size and type of fish you can keep.

Now back to the topic, everything on your list is fine except for the emperor angel, unicorn tang, naso tang, and hippo tang. Since the longest panel of your tank is 48", that's what you have to go with. I'd suggest picking fish that don't get over 6" as an adult. Most butterflies are fine. Dwarf angels are great too.

Totally agree with the statements above... except I would think a hippo tang would be OK. They are not nearly as active as other tangs in the swimming department..... so it could probably be done however preferably not. My hep tang seems cramped in my 6ft 210g.

Naso like mentioned get's way to big for what you have. I had a 10ish in Naso in my old 8ft 240g.... he needed more room.

The unicorn/naso even more so. They are to big for my 10ft 475g.... considering they get close to 2ft long.....

More then likely as the emperor gets big he would be a huge bully in there.... just not enough room for other fish to get out of his way.

would a whimpy trigger be OK in there? bluejaw or Sargassum?

Well the "bow" on my tank is near 7' long... I already have the Naso, and my wife loves that fish, she must stay. I will drop the unicorn, and the emperor... Possibly add another butterfly or wimpy trigger...

My bad, I did not take the hypotenuse into account. Though, your corner tank is a right triangle with 48" on both the opposite and adjacent sides, so the hypotenuse is 48 * sqrt(2) = 67", not the 7' = 84" as you claimed. The bow itself may be nearly 84" depending on the radius of curvature, but the "straight-through" swimming distance without the need to turn is 67". I would treat this tank as a regular 6-foot 210g tank, and stock accordingly.

Since you already have the naso, i guess just go ahead and keep it, but do skip the emperor and unicorn. There are other choices of large angels that will fit your tank well, such as the genus chaetodontoplus (scribbled, personifer, etc.), as well as geniacanthus. Majestic angel and regal angel will also be good candidates for your tank.
