I don't believe it, my lunare wrasse survived 7 days without heat/air from the tornado 3 weeks ago! The water temp got down to about 50 degrees. Only fish I lost was my banded snake eel (shoot, I just got him too) I was actually moving my LR to find the wrasse body and he comes swimming out! He deserves a fishy size t-shirt that says "i survived spfld. il tornado"!
Ever since the tornado hit I am extremely scared. I use to love "thunderstorm weather" and now we might have more bad weather Thursday! Heck, I just got my insurance check and ordered the Orbit MH/PC/LL 6' and will be afraid to install it with this weather (power surge). I am sure my insurance co wouldn't want to replace an 900.00 fixture twice!

So good luck to us all in the midwest this week

Use a good surge protector that actually has a surge suppressor built in instead of just a power strip and you won't have to worry about bad weather ruining your lights. Most of the brand named surge strips even come with guarantees so if equipment connected to the surge protector gets damaged during brown outs, power swings, etc, the company will pay for damaged items up to a certain amount depending on how good the surge protector is. Now if you are hit by a tornado, that's a different story. A surge protector isn't going to do your lights much good in that case! Glad to hear about your wrasse though, that is amazing!

consider buying a honda electric generator... should do you well unless the tornado hits REALLY hard.

edit: forgot to wish you goodluck! GOODLUCK! >.<

I'm amazed the fish made it. I lost a few fish last fall from going about 18 hours with no water movement. I had a ton of caulerpa in the display at the time though and I think it sucked the O2 out of the tank at overnight.

YIKES! I'm glad he made it, but especially glad you're okay. I'm originally from Springfield and havent been up to see the damage yet, but from what was on tv in St. Louis it looked awful. :(

Hopefully things will go back to normal weatherwise asap. It blew my mind that Springfield was hit - last time a tornado actually hit the city itself was back in the 50's I think. At least thats what my dad told me. Usually seems to go either north or south of town.

Good luck! Drop me a PM if you ever need anything from St Louis area. I usually drive up about once a month to visit family and would be glad to drop off if you need anything from Gateway Aquatics or Beldt's [my usual stomping grounds.]
