Fish TB (mycobacterium marinum)

Has anyone here been infected with fish tank granuloma from fish tb? I contracted this disease about three years ago and am still fighting it off. I ask because I want to know if I can reinfect future fish as I refuse to quit the hobby and don't want to reinfect anything. Not trying to scare anybody just trying to be responsible where living beings are concerned.

My 90g freshwater was completely wiped out by the disease several years ago. It was back in the day when the only listed symptoms of fish TB was "spinal curvature". Now we know that spinal curvature is fairly rare with TB, and that popeye, dropsy, lesions, growths, emaciation, etc., are far more common symptoms.

As for you spreading the disease to your aquatic critters, I'd imagine it would be unlikely. But still, thoroughly wash with soap before interacting with your tanks, and wear gloves and cover sores with waterproof bandaids. Heck, maybe even throw on an N95 mask to be safe.

Have you tried laser therapy for the affected areas (I'm assuming the hand)? A holistic approach could be helpful as well. You know, dandelion root and/or milkthistle to detox your liver (yes, those herbs are indeed used to treat advanced liver disease), ginger root tea before every meal (deals with any protozoa or parasites you may be harbouring, as well as improving your circulation and immune system), a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar before eating (acidifies your digestive tract to fight yeast), take vitamin D pills daily... Actually, that would be a good course of action.

I know most people don't trust treatments you can get without a prescription from your doctor, but these herbs and whatnot are all used in veterinary medicine and human medicine. I have a number of rescued parrots, and they have an assortment of health issues. These are all treatments I use (and avian vets recommend them), and they do help. The aforementioned "remedies" will help cleanse your entire body, making it easier for your body to recover from the TB.

I appreciate your advice. It got me good entered through nail punctures in my head from leaving nails sticking out in my sump area. I have been using almost everything you have mentioned, plus constantly working out and crap tons of orange juice to keep it at Bay.Has been misdiagnosed repeatedly so I have been treated with a myriad of the wrong antibiotics steroids and parasiTe meds. All my hair fell out twice and has grown back again except for some permanent bald spots where some of the granuloma healed and where some still are. Hope the next doctor gets it right as I have shelled out ten Grand cash and still got no true diagnosis and I would like this to end. However I love this hobby and I will never quit. Truly just trying to make sure I don't kill the things I love as I return to aquaria.
