Fish With Missing Fins

I have two fish, one Cinnamon Clown and one Fireball Angel that have chunk taken out of their tail fins. Both these fish went through a 30 day QT before being put in the tank. The clown has been there for 6 and the Angle has been there for four.

Personally I think they are nipping at each other as I sometimes see them chasing each other around the tank on occasion. I don't worry too much about the aggression.

Both are eating really well and I don't see any changes in their behavior. I got the best pics I could. What would you do?

That's what I thought. Luckily the fish fighting are the toughest ones so I'll watch them closely and see what happens over the next few weeks.

I reeeeaaalllyyyy like that angel. Had one but I couldnt keep it alive. Personally I would rehome the clown, get something else. Then again if the clown is getting nipped, who knows who's the real culprit!

I wouldn't do anything but watch. Being new to the tank they are both just trying to establish a pecking order. They will work it out or they won't. Just keep an eye is both eating and both our swimming I wouldn't worry about little fin nipping

Honestly the clowns tends to keep to themselves but the angle likes to go near their anemone aka "MP40" a lot so if anyone is the instigator it's him. He deserved it.

If you took out every fish that showed a little aggression you have no fish left in the tank. Keeping fish in an aquarium is about managing that aggression to a safe level. Like I stated before 6 days is not a long enough time to tell if those 2 will get along. But with only a few find ripped I wouldn't worry about it. I had 2 fairy wrasses live together in a 57 gallon tank for 2 years. I put them in a 265 and for the first week they chased each other like crazy. After a week they stopped. I even added a much smaller flasher wrasse and they again showed no aggression

It's solan wrasses and red one I am not sure of name. I like wrasses. They are active and I never had one bother any other fish except other wrasses and even then it hadn't been that bad. But you need lid on your tank they will jump

Probably evidence of fighting, though it could also be fin rot. Chunks missing from fighting regenerate pretty quickly. My tangs are always ripping chunks out of each other's fins. Takes about a week to repair. But then there's new chunks missing. Fin rot will typically not heal up as quickly, or not at all.

Not likely fin rot. Red clowns usually take 50 gallon territory and tend to take it out of the middle of the tank. Angels will often defend themselves. But it's also possible somebody else is having lunch on both. As fish grow and settle in they will start exercising territorial demands and if the tank is large enough it will sort out. If it isn't, well, not good.

My pyramids and sailfin tang have bite marks on their dorsal fins every once in a while, they try to start beef with eachother

Status update. Everyone is still swimming around and eating aggressively so I guess the incident was temporary. People on my facebook group suggested one of the clowns is changing sex. Since I got them has Juv's 6months ago, it may be the time.

Update here. Seems everyone calmed down and their fins are healing on both the clowns and the angel. There was a bit more fighting after I started this post. I believe the clown went after my Royal Gramma too. He has a scratch on his head but that's almost healed. I feel bad for him. He's the nicest Gramma ever! He's always out swimming, never bothers anything! I think the angle deserved it. He's always near them like "I'm not touching you I'm not touching you". Idiot fish.
