Fishdoc's 120 gallon thread

My 1200 initally didn't work for very long without problems. Today I worked on them a little and put two of them pointing down in the backs of my now BB 110g. tank. Hopefully they will last.

The Aquarium and The Coral Reef seem to both have their strengths and weaknesses and are pretty much the only games in town for saltwater. The good thing is they are less than a mile apart so it's no problem to drive to one to get one thing and then drive to the other:p There is a store that just opened about an hour and a half northeast of here that looks fantastic. I probably won't be able to head that way anytime soon though.
Chris

Under the Sea is not a new store, just a new location. I recommend it if you're in the area. They also have a website found here on sponsor links, but presently probably only have about 2% of their total inventory listed.

Here are a few pics of the new tank....well it's not new it's just moved to a new location:p

Chris:

LOOKING GOOD!!!!

Don't you just love the Christmas Wrasse, hard to find a healthy one, but when you do their great. I know I love looking at mine.

Rick

Thanks guys:D

I personally prefer BB for this kind of tank...one that is predominately Acros and will have a high fish load. Much easier to maintain IMO with the proper equipment/setup. The 90 was BB for ~ 8 months before I moved and I really liked the way it performed as such.

I do really like the Christmas wrasse:) I was very fortunate to find one that had allready been in captivity for a while and was doing well.

thanks, Chris

Looks good Chris. Those zoas, rics, and leathers add a nice roundness to the tank. Looks like everything is happy.

Have not had time to read all pages; but if BB, what do you have on the bottom of the tank?
Clearly it is white (even to my color blind eyes), and I see a split line in the middle of the bottom of the tank.
Just wondering.

Rick

It's HDPE 1/2" cuttingboard.

If I would have had more time when I was setting the tank up I would have been able to get the crack out. It fit well when I cut it and fit it dry but when we moved the rock down from Nashvegas for some reason it did'nt go in right...and yes it's the same way I fit it:) The best laid plans:rolleyes:

Thanks Gary:D

Hey Chris thanks for the recent shots. I really like your new rock work. Man you REALLY hacked up your corals huh? Not too much left to your Paletta blue huh? :) I appreciate it though. Your tank looks great. Sortof wish I would have went with the MJ mods instead of the Tunze's Save the cash!!!

I like the stand too. That color of stain looks very nice. Well done.

I think it looks great and the wrass looks fantastic. Great find on him  Seriously you have some nice shots of him, I bet it took 50 shots to get him though.
I think your tank looks full as ever! It needs me to come thin it out some

Looking great as always. Doesn't even look like it has been moved recently besides the corals are smaller.

Thanks Chris:D

I intended to also have a 40 gallon setup wth most of the LPS and softies in it when I was planning the move. I ended up keeping more corals than I would have if I would have had the foresight that I only have time for 1 tank right now....if that:rolleyes:

The MJ mods work well but I've been thinking about Tunzes...I guess the grass is allways greener. I had originally planned it with no powerheads but you know how that goes.

Thanks Angela:D
I really feel for you on setting up your new tank. I didn't think it would be nearly the amount of work that it was and mine is half the size of yours:p

Next time you head up this way LMK and we will work on thinning it out a bit;)

Thanks Michael:D
Another "in retrospect"...I should have made the corals even smaller:lol:

thanks, Chris

Looks great Chris:) Glad to see everything moved ok.
BTW, Did you silicone your cuttingboard down?
I ask because I found a decent size pebble that got under mine and there was quite a bit of detritus underneath the board when I took my tank down....let alone the worm that was living underneath...

Thanks Dustin:D

I didn't silicone the Starboard down. Thought about it but didn't do it. Looked at several threads and the consensus was that it didn't make much of a difference. There is some detritus starting to build up in a couple of spots underneath but it doen't amount to much at all....I have it pretty flat.

Sorry to hear about your misshap by the way:(
This was the first I had heard of it.

I found 2 of those worms in a rock in my 75. They were eating clams and snails from what I could tell.

Chris

Thx....Yeah, I believe it ate about 4 Slender Anthias and an 8-line wrasse....and possibly some stonies (especially Montipora). It was 10-14" long. I guess it took the flood for me to find it
But, I would have kept wondering about "mysterious losses" and wouldnt have new flooring if it wasnt for the RO canister exploding while I was out of town:rolleyes: Theirs always a reason:D

If it wasnt for that pebble, I dont think I would have had the same problems. Im siliconing it in this time....just because its down....I was just curious:)

Well Chris if I were you I'd keep your cash for now if your getting good flow and your corals look happy. The only thing I could see that might be a plus about the Tunze's the the ability to alternate flow but you could do the same with some type of a diy control to alternate on and off??

To be honest I've had a little bit of a problem in the beginning with calcium buildup in the Tunze's and them quittting of course that meant sending them back to Roger to be fixed cause the transformer burnt up. This happend 2 or 3 times. I will say though since they redesigned the impellers I haven't had any problems with that though and they've been running with the new ones for about 6 mos and no need to clean them. I also check them about 1x/month for buildup now.

Have fun,
Chris
