Fishdoc's 90 gallon

Really nice tank... do you have an idea of how much rock that is? I also have a 90 gal and really like the way yours is set up... good ideas I could use in mine:)

Thanks again all:)

reef architect,
All the sps were grown from frags and most of the others as well. The larger colonies have been with me for anywhere between 6 months and 3 years, most represent 1 or 2 years growth. All of the larger pieces have been fragged several times, some have been cut back a bunch or split at least once.

cuong,
I run 2 250 watt SE 10K Ushio's, 2 110 watt URI atinics and 2 55 watt blue PC bulbs.

reefgeek85,
That is indeed an elephant skin....... aka Pachyseris.

ngasco1,
It's about 93 lbs of Walt Smith aquacultured Fiji and about 35 lbs of Atlantic aquacultured. IMO I have too much which makes maintenance and flow more difficult and doesn't really give the fish much room. I am planning a 120 and will probably keep about the same amount or a little less rock in it FWIW.

thanks, Chris

wow!! nice tank.. any personal tips that you have about keeping sps (lighting, flow, parameters..) as your specimens look vibrantly colored and really healthy..

Was it always that green or is it your lights, cause I have always seen them brown with very light green. If you ever frag it, please look me up.

Thanks Otterpop510:)
I like starting with tank raised frags and giving them good water quality first and foremost. Lots of different ways to do it but I like using a large skimmer......one rated for at least twice your tank size if not more depending on what kind. Good flow is very important. I like 10K SE quality halide bulbs with URI atinic supplimentation for lighting. IMO you get what you pay for with bulbs. Good results can be had with barebottom, DSB, SSB and plenums. The downfalls of these methods are usually from improper implimentation or not understanding the limits of the method you try to employ. Here are some good threads JBNY started that are a good read.

A couple of comments about my opinion of a couple of things Joe says in this thread. IMO 0 phosphates and 0 nitrates are definately desirable but as long as phosphate is under 0.03ppm and nitrates are under 5ppm IME you are usually fine as far as coloration and they can be slightly higher and you can still have healthy corals. Also params can fluctuate some but swings in alk and temp can really stress sps out.

Reefgeek84,
As Gflat can attest it's actually that green if not more so in person. It grows very slow and has quite a local waiting list.

thanks, Chris
