Fishing equip. advice.

With all this fishin talk I think we need to do a club tournament:thumbsup:

After Ken's pics a tournament with him in it would be like playing pool with 'The Hustler'. It's a reel tipoff when the fisherman knows what bait/lure he used 18 years ago!

Costco in Rohnert Park just got 3 different sets (Shimano reel and rod) one trout, and one bass, for about $40 each set no line though and another one I think inland, I think about $50 no line either, just throwing it out. We normally don't carry any.

Nice catch Ken, do you have pictures or example of those spinner baits that you used? I like to try Bass fishing but have no idea.

Here's a pic of a basic spinnerbait. The size / weight of the lead head and the number and shape of blades vary. It's a great lure for windy days and for pulling through wood or grass cover (fairly weedless). This one has willow leaf and small Colorado blades, which is a good general purpose design. Willow leaf blades are great for clear water and should be sized to match local shad forage. Colorado blades have more thump and are great for dirtier water where vibration is a greater attractant because of reduced visibility.

I'll add a single tail grub trailer to beef up the profile when fishing for larger fish, such as the 8.3 I caught at Sonoma. While fishing clearer water with a higher speed retrieve, a reduced profile (no trailer) is often preferred.

The spinnerbait has fallen out of fashion recently as crankbaits can frequently outperform a spinnerbait under a greater variety of conditions. When the spinnerbait bite is on though, it's often hard to beat, particularly for smallmouth bass.

I don't think that will be enough! :lol2:

You give me far too much credit. Sometimes even a blind squirrel finds a nut.

I thought I was going to be trout fishing too. Lol

While I fish for bass locally, I do trout too, particularly in Montana while visiting my mother. When in Rome...

Plus I love fly fishing. When I was younger, I used to tie my own flies while flyfishing for bass. It was tremendously satisfying to catch fish on a fly of my own construction. Of course when the fish destroyed the fly, that was less good but still great overall. :)

I like Shimano reels. Most of my reels, particularly the ah, more valuable ones, are Shimano, both spinning and baitcasting. Daiwa makes good reels too, as do some other companies.
