Fishing for Hemisquilla Californiensis?

okay, in the redondo beach area, sometimes people on the fishing boats i've been on catch mantis shrimp with rod and reel, unfortunately this was before i had ever started a saltwater aquarium,

my question: is there an effective way to fish for mantis shrimp without hurting them? i know that hemisquilla californiensis isn't well suited for the home aquarium, but i just want to know if they can be caught out in the ocean easily

Except, i can't dive so that's out of the question, does anyone have ideas for traps or anything, maybe a larger version of the inverted bottle technique?

I can't give you much advice on catching them, but I do want to suggest that you check out the DFG Regulations on taking H. californiensis if you end up deciding to do so.

tastes better than lobster actually, boiled and then dipped in soy sauce and hot rice! wow, this has gotta be the worst place to say that!
