It is a risk to get one is the best way I would answer the question. They have been known to nip corals but some get lucky. I think it depends on what you have in your tank and the luck of the draw on the fish.
From what I understand (and in my own experience), they are much more prone to nip at LPS if they nip at all. I would say there is a 25-50% chance that they will nip at all. Of course, I don't have much to back that up so take that as you will. Hope I helped!
One day My Sps corals was looking different i look at them and all of them had there polyps out like i never saw them before for five years i was puzzled till i find my flame angel in the overflow i never saw the flame nip on any of them but it make believer out of me small angel do nip on the coral the only way to tell is get them out off the tank and see the diffrece like i did.
Now the angel is in a FO tank.
Yeah I have a flame in my tank and he does nip. I have noticed a lack of pe since I added him. When I move the tank soon he wont be going back in. I think this is due to certain personalitys of different fish.
Had one in my larger 55 with SPS and had poor polyp extension, and saw him nipping. I moved last week and put him in my 37 (all my coral survived btw) and i have better PE now than before. Just my $.02
Mine nipped all the time, from one sps to the next. Finally got him out of the tank, but then turned around and put a golden inthe tank, who also nips. IMO I think all angels nip some just more than others. They may not be trying to eat the corals just checking them out. my 2 cents
