flame angel harem q-tine

Hi all,

So I'm going to try a harem of flame angel's. For q-tine I use the tank transfer method. In my case that means 5x5 gal buckets with a 1 fish per bucket.

My understanding of flames is that you get them small and the dominant one becomes male. So i will get one big one.

My concern is that while isolated in buckets the smaller ones might start to change. Should i be concerned?

Yes, they are capable of sex change from female to male.

It takes more than 12 days and also requires the social interaction with others.
They likely have been isolated for quite some time from capture through shipping,...

Thanks for your reply.

Living in Asia (thailand) I'm guessing the 'reef to end user' time is less than in other parts of the world. That being said I'm sure the 12 days would be exceeded.

So I guess the conclusion is that if they're gonna change arc then the 20 or so days in q-tine isn't going to make much difference.

Incidentally the purposes display tank is 48x24x18 (LxWxH) with lots of open aquascaping using LR branches.
