Flame hawkfish

Picked up this little guy today and how cute. I was worried about putting him in with my larger yellow coris wrasse but everyone seemed good. I hope he sticks around for awhile!

They are one of the coolest fish out there.
Lots of personality and easy to care for and feed.

I've had mine almost two years. Hasn't really grown too much. I love him - he just flits around between his favorite perching places. I feed him pellets and he's real hardy.

Well I don't have any smaller fish and only snails and two conches. Haven't seen him go after much food yet but he sure likes the frozen brine shrimp. Only been a few days so far.

Yes, agree about personality so to speak. But IME, they like to harass small inverts.

I added a 2nd one about a month ago hoping they would pair up. Swam around together the first couple days, but have kept to themselves ever since.

If any flame hawk owner is in need of a smile, just imagine a tank full of these guys.

The coolest fish in the sea.

IME, they will go after small fish, small crustaceans and snails. They also are prone to jumping.

He is not going after anything or jumping even though tank is covered. The only problem is my female clown is always haressing it. If my whoop *** stick won't stop her then it's going to be more drastic.

I've had zero issues with jumping although mine took out my two cleaner shrimp within the first two months (which I knew was a gamble). They are definitely a risk to smaller fish and I would even say larger ones as well. I've noticed a few nipped fins on occasion with my Regal Angel who is similar in size along with my radiant wrasse. Given my other tankmantes I'm putting the blame on the hawkfish. The damage heals and it's never severe but happens.

Ours is in with a large skunk cleaner shrimp and a large fire shrimp.
No issues with those or the cleaner gobi's or the hermit crabs.

We had 2 Long Nose that paired up a few years back but lost one in a tank crash.

The remaining long-nosed and the flame hawkfish got along fine for a year.
New Flame Hawk was about the same size/weight(?) as the long nose.

My tank has corner overflows. This is where my flame hawkfish sleeps. He jumps over the weir at night and jumps back in the morning

Never seen him do it.... just find him there at night, and back in the DT in the morning. Only way in is up and over. Going on for a couple months now. I did have bristle worms in the overflow...not now. He only does this on one side.
