Flame hawkfish

Hawkfish can jump - it tends to be because they are startled or chased, not for the fun of it like wrasses. My first flame hawk jumped out after about 8 months, the evening before there had been loud noises, fireworks or thunder, I forget. That was with a full glass canopy, but a small opening around cords or a return pipe.

I have have had my second hawk fish for over 18 years now. He (?) can be a bit if a bully, not attacking pther fish, but first in line for food. My foxface has established himself well, a flash of his spikes and the hawk backs off.

Hermit crabs are hawk food. It might take a while, but he catches them when they change shells. My coral banded shrimp has been fine with the hawk for 11 years. The CBS was pretty big when I got it with thebidea that it would be too big to eat.

Flame hawks are such cool fish, they are worth not having hermit crabs for.

My two mating clowns keep my hawkfish in check. Haven't seen the hawkfish go after anything including crabs. Even if he did it's no big deal.

This hawkfish is so neat. My female clown will often nudge him back into an area the clown cannot squeeze into. I'm not sure if the clown is being an ahole or if the hawkfish is just getting on her nerves and loving it.

The hawkfish sometimes will look so cute peeking out from under my monticap also. These guys sure have that personality.
