Flame Hawkfish

I'm contemplating adding one of these fish to my nano tank (BC29), are they reef safe? I know I wouldn't be able to have any shrimp or small bottom dwelling fish but other then that are they good reef citizens? I like fish with lots of personality and am in the market for a red fish. I have an ocellaris clown and a starry blenny as my only fish (my flasher wrasse just died), would a Flame Hawk be compatible with those two?

I had one for a long while , absolutely loved him. Never bothered my shrimp , coral etc... just watch out they can jump!!

Yes he would be compatible, get the smallest one you can find. I have a large flame hawk and 2 cleaner shrimps & 1 fire shrimp with no problems. If the shrimp are in the tank first you might be able to do it. A coral bandit shrimp should also be no problem.

They are aggressive eaters (pigs!) so any gobies may not get their share.

Great fish... lot's of character.

what about as far as corals go, will they nip/eat or otherwise irritate corals?

Nope, never nipped at a coral. They are reef safe, just caution with decorative shrimps (Sexy's, Harlequins and peppermint/camels).

would one flame hawk be to much for a 20 gallon. no other fish in it at this time. though i was thinking about a cleaner goby. i'm really interested in these guys, i'd like to keep him alone in my smaller 20 gallon, but i do have a larger tank i could put him in to. any suggestions?

I had one in my 20l I would suggest adding the hawk last. They can bully smaller more docile fish and will eat smaller shrimp. Mine did at least. Very cool fish especially if you have an sps dominated tank. They will perch on the acros very cool!
