Flame, Lineatus, and Labouti wrasse in bound....

I will be picking these 3 wrasses up tomorrow from my LFS. Any suggestions on Quarantine procedures to help this make a safe and positive transition as they will be going through QT in the same 40g breeder. QT has LR and PVC fittings for them hide in will also be adding sand into the QT in case they decide to retreat into (which i dont believe is necessary??). These wrasses are being sourced from Quality Marine. Please let me know what you all think. thanks.

Just make sure to feed several time a day. Are these males? Sand isn't needed for fairy wrasses. Should be nice fish if coming from QM.

the only one that will not be a male is the flame. I actually tried to get all females since most tend to change to male anyway, but could not pass up the price on the male lineatus and labouti.

Prazi and tight lid for sure. Introduce them together. Lineatus can be nasty so if you have a way to segregate him like a fish trap for a day or two it may help. Nice set of wrasses.

Will normal eggcrate / light diffuser work? In other words, how big of a wrasse is needed to not fit through that top? (That's what I use on my 40g breeder but I've been waiting on fairy / flasher wrasses because of my toppers.)

Will be using mesh lid on the qt, in case of any aggression I have an acclimation box from elite aquatics that I can use to separate them in. I hope the extra cost of sourcing them through quality marine is worth it in the quality of the fish. I hope I get a leg up by starting with good specimens.

Probably fine if putting all three in at same time. Yes. I'd say male labouti will possibly be more aggressive than male lineatus. But still ok. U could always but 1 in an acc box in the QT if needed.
Feed, feed, feed and prazi like stated above.
ENJOY

Subscribing. Please update during qt and main display, would love to see a labouti and lineatus get along well to give me hope in my 180 :)

To try and prevent Any aggression b/w the lineatus and labouti I will start with the smaller of the 2 in the acclimation box for a few days. I will post pics as they arrive and are settled into the qt.

@vision, lots of people have great success in that size tank between those two. Just use an acc box and you'll most likely be fine

How expensive are they thru QM?

All new fish going into QT at same time should be fine...no need to separate any to start with.

Not sure on the exact cost just yet. I just know that quality marine is a more expensive wholesaler than the others that my LFS use here in town such as sea dwelling and underwater world. I will know the individual prices this afternoon when I go pick them up.

Male lineatus isn't all that bad; females can be however. But as others stated, laboutei has a bigger aggression potential.

No; eggcrate does not make a good cover. If the head fits, the fish fits. It's too big for Paracheilinus and small Cirrhilabrus.

You'll be fine in a 180.

That's probably unnecessary. If the DT has no wrasses currently, you don't need to use the acclimation box there either, assuming you transfer them all at once from the QT down the road.

Agree; I wouldn't bother.

Thanks for the input guys will just add them to the qt at the same time and hope for the best. I was just notified that they have arrived and are in transit to my LFS hoping made the trip safely.

Here they are during acclimation. ..

I also ordered 2 flame angels and 2 flamebacks to pair them up. Put the 2 smaller angels in an acclimation box for a few days. Wrasses did not even bother one another in the box. Please forgive the dirty tank and the bad quality cell phone pic.

Here are the flame and lineatus the labouti would not come out for a pic.

looks like I got an initial phase lineatus male, a male labouti and a female flame wrasse. They have settled into qt nicely even picked at frozen food before I turned the lights out. Will keep you updated on how they do.
