flame pair with red velvet fairy wrasse?

Saw the post about PIA and was intrigued by the flame pair and red velvet fairy wrasse. I am also just about to add a pintail terminal phase male. 280g tank which is well stocked but not overcrowded and thinking of finishing it off with a few wrasses.

Am I asking for trouble if I add them all? I also have an exquisite that is established and I would consider rehoming him as he can be a little moody (or shall I say a different kind of PIA) with new wrasse additions.

Thanks for any feedback.

I have a well established red velvet wrasse who runs the tank. Every wrasse that I add a put in acclimation box for at least a week prior to releasing. Has worked very well with my cf lancelatous, blue streak pencil, rhomboid male, and Rosefascia pair. The flame pair I added at the same time as the red velvet. No aggression from them, or labouti either.

Use the box for a few weeks.

I've heard bad stories about velvets but I have a solon and blueside co-existing, though not best friends. You could try the box, longest i've needed the box for is 12 days untill i was pretty certain there would be no death tornadoes.

One thing ive always heard about flame pairs/trios; You usually get 2 males in short order and have to find another home anyway.

I'd get a flame and pintail though for sure as your exquisite will probably not care, and then look into some flashers instead of the velvet. Even with the more docile wrasse I would get a good box to use.

I had a red velvet, exquisite and 2 flames in same tank. No issues between the species.

As usual the flames didn't last long. They were both female. After 6 months they started fighting, which happens with them as both or one starts to turn male. I didn't catch the losing flame in time and she died. They were in a 220g.

In case you needed it, here is a third recommendation to only get a single female/juvi C. jordani. My juvi C. cf lanceolatus & juvi C. jordani spend all day side by side in my 125. Both are much smaller than my larger, established Fairys and were completly ignored by them upon introduction. You may have issues down the road trying to introduce new wrasses once the C. rubrisquamis is established, but either way using an acclimation box is a must.

rubrisquamis is one I'd stay away from. They often get downright nasty; not always, but often enough.

Further, if they're going to squabble with anyone, it's going to be jordani.

Thanks resident wrasse experts
I have decided to rehome the exquisite
So i now just have a blue flasher and lubbocks, and pintail coming

If you were going to add 3-4 more wrasses, and without spending several hundred on a fish, what would you add if it was your tank, (compatibility considered)? Are solorensus ornery?
I did have a lineatus awhile back - beautiful fish, but he did not last due to swim bladder (thankfully a DD 14 day guarantee)
Much appreciated!

My solarensis is very ornery. Far more than an exquisite. I had an awesome exquisite back in the day wish I could find one with his coloring again.

Oh, a couple wrasse i really like are the orangebacks and yellow-flanked fairy wrasse. Also your bread and butter flasher wrasse are pretty as well.

So stay away from the red velvet then? I was considering adding one to my tank as well in fact the one from PIA for $100 is the one I was looking at. My tank is a lot smaller and has a lot of wrasses already but I need one more lol. Should I get a potters or a blue star leopard instead of the red velvet then. Thanks

my favorite affordable wrasse is the Lineatus. I got a wonderful deal on a juvenile a while back, and she is a model citizen with my other wrasses. I also think the pink margin fairy wrasse is an amazing fish, especially for the price. I recently had to remove my yellow flanked fairy wrasse due to him being a bully but I'm not sure what others have experienced with them. Beautiful fish though!
