Flame Rose Bubble Tip Anemone?

I don´t want to ruin the party, but the reason why I want to change to H. Magnificas, is because according to me, BTAs don´t keep their coolness.

I bought a purple BTA, it was really purple even with a purple base. With time, it started to open more, just like yours, and the color started to change to human skin color, it only looks purple with atinics now, but since it is very open and the tentacles are far appart now and pointier, it doesn´t look cool anymore.

Do you have any pictures?

You say some of your tenicles are 1/3 of the way green?

The divers den rbta that I bought lastweek... well its certainly not red.

But as its starting to unbubble, Im noticing the tenicles are 1/4 of the way green (closest to the base)
The tenicles are orange, not quite cheatos, more like.. an orange dream cycle, kinda creamly. and the tips are def yellowish beige.
The disk is green pretty much and the foot is pinkish/rose

Did yours get more orange as it colored up? Or more rose?

My disk is most definately different than yours, but im wondering if the green is going to travel, or if it'll get more orange. just noticed the bottoms of tenicles were green today...

you can barely see the green on the tenicles in refering to, the pic really washes all the colors out quite a bit

You are right. When the tentacles are more constricted the color is more condensed and is prettier. In some cases the colors have a similar purpose of those of SPS corals, namely shielding the anemone from harmful radiation. Some BTAs will "brown out" just like corals. In other cases the lengthening of the tentacles is enough to wash out the color. Diet probably also has an effect. I had an anemone very similar to yours. I think there as still some pics in my gallery. You are right, sometimes they don't keep their colors. However, the colors in this anemone are pretty intense. Lengthening of the tentacles doesn't seem to have much effect. The aquarium itself also has a pretty good track record of maintaining and even bringing out orange colors in montipora corals over the long term, so I think I have a good shot at being able to maintain this anemone's color.

I am guilty of poor word choice by saying the tentacles were green at the base. They are basically a neutral BTA color with just a hint of olive. The pink and orange/yellow combination runs pretty much the length of the visible tentacle. Think of a nice rose anemone like the one in the "My House is Burning" thread, but instead of white tips, the tips are yellow, but the yellow extends 1/2 way down into where there is already red pigment. The resulting mix gives you the orange. The tentacles from the disk go neutral-rose-orange-and then yellow at the very tip.
I am pretty sure I saw the rose anemones that LiveAquaria is selling at the wholesalers down here. In fact one of the wholesalers stopped calling them roses and is now calling them orange tentacled BTAs. Some of the anemones were nicer than others. You certainly have one of the nicer ones. I can't tell you what will happen to yours. I can tell you that in the wholesale tanks, over the course of the first week, some of the anemones browned out and some kept their nice color. My anemone is quite a bit different than yours, however yours looks similar to pictures I have seen of the famous Colorado "Sunset" anemone.
I don't think the colors in mine have expanded or contracted, I think the tentacle shape has just changed.
Good luck with yours, its beautiful.

GSMGuy,
I don't think it has really grown very much. Its just getting comfortable. :D

thats funny, ive taken to calling it an Obta too. Ill keep it updated. thanks for the information! I could picture it greening up more so than browning, hafta find out i suppose.
(want to see this 'famous' colorado sunset now :) )

Phil, perhaps you remember, about 3 years ago, Tong's and Fish Collection down by your place would bring these 'cheetos/copper' roses in every now and then.
I always thought they were incredible, hopefully it does well for you. Keep us updated!

Here are some more pics, although it hasn't changed much except for growing a bit.
It is difficult to capture the true color with my camera so I took one of the pics under actinics to give you a better feel for the hint of rose in the tentacles.
It is about 8-9" across.

hey now,,, that is amazing that is definetly a cool color morph good job with it

I have one I got with orange, but it just turned brown in my tank; cant get the auxillary pigmentation to retrurn to the tentacles. oh well, i've only had it 6 months i'll really know at a year if i can get the colors back.

mines still not turning brown. (really happy about that) lol

It brite orange (not quite that brite) on the top half of the tenicles and still green on the bottom half, with that yellowish dot on the tips

I'm visiting my folks here in OC till monday and at an LFS I found a RBTA about 6" in dia. for $89 is that a good price, also if I get it will it make the 4 hour drive back north.

I have seen them for more and I've seen them for less. If it has really nice color, its an fair price.
It will should it back fine. I wouldn't hurt to put the bag in a cheap cooler and pack newspaper around it though, to keep the temp stable.
