Flame Wrasse prices

I haven't been to the fish stores in quite awhile and was surprised to see Flame wrasses priced in the $200-$300 range. I remember when they were under $100. What happened? And where can I get one at a lower price? Thanks in advance!

I have noticed the same thing myself. about 4 years ago I used to work at a LFS and we got a pair of them and offered them for 75 bucks and nobody wanted them. My have times changed.
I think it is because of the internet. People talked about them showed pictures of them, people wanted more of them so they became harder to get so prices shot up.

they are becoming hard to come by now adays actually... They are being found deeper then they have use to be (so it seems) and divers are raising the prices because they have to go deeper, waste more O2 to get there and usually that is all they catch (with some commons inbetween)

wholesale prices havenearly doubled (some places more)
they are becoming more rare then say a lineatus...

i think they are the nicest looking fairy wrasse.... :)

I think I see LFS in Irvine sell them for $65. If you want to know where it is just pm me and I will tell you, don't want to post the store name in this site. I think it again the rule.
thank you

females for 65$ quite possibly.. an actual changed male... very very doubtful. I know wholesalers who sell them for 65....

I found a website that sells a pair for 100 and ach additional female for 30 bucks. They located in hawaii so they probably catch their own. I want o try them but dunno if a respectabel Wholesaler that has good luck with thier fish.

if anyone has had good luck with thesse guys i might get my pair that i've been wanting

twilight aquatics no longer exists.. Brian the owner caught his own fish but shut down that store to do other things... 100$ for a pair is only possible if they catch their own.. lol

i know where those came from... lol

that is a great price for a male... cheapest i have seen it (with it actually in stock!)

Well, that didn't work out. He couldn't ship as the male was dead.

Sorry to hear that, better in his tank than yours :)
