Flasher Wrasse Question

What is meant by the term "Female Sub Adult/Male?" Does this mean that it is a female in the process of changing? Does it mean that it is unsexed? I just found it as a curious statement. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I believe they change sex as the mature. terminal phase is a full blown male and will not change back into a female...I think. College was a long time ago LOL I know angels are hermaphrodidic and so are some clowns. Not sure about wrasses but I know the males go through a maturing process at least.

terminal phase is when it is turning into a male and not at the super male stage, and yes they can turn back to full female in the terminal stage

Wrasses are born female. They are protogynous hermaphrodites, meaning females transition to male in the wild as harem conditions and space require. Females can/may transition to male in a closed system as well.

As a juvi, all flashers are female. As they begin to transition to male, this is what is typically labeled the transitional phase, a transitional male, or a sub-male. In this transition, it is possible for the transition to reverse and the fish goes back to female (but this is not typically). The transitional phase can also stall, and there is no set time the transitional phase will last. The end of the transitional phase is the terminal phase. This is when the labels terminal male, male, adult male, and super male are applied. Once the fish reaches the state of terminal male, a reversal to female is NOT possible. Terminal is just that: terminal.

So the term "Female Sub Adult/Male" means that these wrasses are in the process of turning into males correct?

That strung altogether doesn't make any sense really, it can't be all those at once. Sounds more like a label that one might use if they don't know what it is.

Yeah I know. It confused the help at Live Aquaria as well. After about a half hour he "punted." So I figured I would get on here to see what others thought. I think I'm going to stay with my original plan and just wait until they get wrasses labeled just female. I think that is the better thing to do.
