Float switch question

I just recieved my float switches I purchased for use with my Apex. They are Madison float switches with splash gaurds from Chicago Sensor/aquahub. With the sensors came a warning: "Do not submerge the wire potting of any float switch. The wires must stay dry at all times." What happens when the power goes out and the sump fills up, the water level will compleately submerge the float switches.
Also there are 2 wires leaving the float switch, dose it matter which wire I attach to the ground lead for the Apex?

What I did with the same floats was to screw a small piece of pvc tubing and fill the end with silicon so it doesn't let water in. If you don't want to do that just glob the ends of the float tube with silicon and be sure to get between the wires and let sit still until dry so the seal is perfect.

I use the Chicago Sensor float switches, not sure if they are the same. I have a low sump float that stays submerged all the time. I have not had any issues with it. You might try adding some epoxy/sealant to the area where to wires enter the float stem.

No, it does not matter which wire is selected as ground. It is a simple continuity signal, OPEN or CLOSED.

So I guese you have the top of the float switch were the wires are inside the PVC covered in sicon and the bottom part that moves up and down in the water. That sounds like it makes sense, Thanks.

small acrylic tube also works well.
