float valve problems

I can't figure this out.
My Kent float valve failed so I replaced it with a very similar (identical?) Coralife float valve.

If you understand how these things work, it's really not a complicated contraption... so why doesn't it work

This new float lifts along with the rising water level but never fully shuts off the water supply. (Oddly enough, this was the same problem with the previous float.)

Is there a way to fix this?

And how come the reject water doesn't shut off anymore?

When my old float was properly operating it would shut the reject water off.
Does this problem have something to do with the relief valve?
Man... I'm stumped. Not too proud to admit it, either.

Gary, my rodi has a four way contraption that is supposed to be ran by pressure and close when the effluent rodi water gets up to a certain pressure. The waste water also goes thru this switch.
Maybe that is the problem?

I'll second what reefboarder said.

Inside that piece(auto shutoff) is a check valve, and I think Garys is stuck open.
Just order another one.

mine doesnt work either, ive just always tried to remember to shut it off....lol doesnt really work too well sometimes. i have it all set up correctly too, or so i think according to the videos

here's what I got

here's what I got

Coralife RO Unit

not a 4 way- that piece on the bottom has one in + one out

once the resevoir is full and the float is horizontal my RO unit starts having spasms!

Looks like time for a retro fit....and rust rehab...lol......you have all of the main elements needed....do you have a storage tank?

interesting

interesting

I talked to G today. He has 4 way shutoff. As seen in my pic (and below), I have a two way shutoff.
Spectrapure uses the 4 way.

Gary - regardless of which type of ASOV your system has, it won't work if your float valve is not shutting off properly - an by "properly" I mean 100.000% - no leaks at all.

If you get that issue figured out it may be that your ASOV is just fine.

Those plastic rectangular floats like shown above don't seem to have a stellar reputation.

thanks, Russ!

thanks, Russ!

that's what I'm learning... the plastic rectangular floats have a tendency to fail.

I have another type here that I'm gonna try tomorrow morning.

PROBLEM SOLVED

it WAS the float itself. One bad float replaced by another BRAND NEW float = both were bad. *** go figure.

G hooked me up with a good float. I think he said this one was made in China
:headwally:

(Wait a minute.. I think ALL of them are made in China!)

Proof that the learning never ends!
