Floating probe holders for saltwater mix station??

I plan on adding salinity probe and temperature probe to my salt water container. This will be for automatic water change system. However the salinity probe cannot be submerged completely.

Does anyone have good ideas on making a floating probe holder?

Only thing I can think of is sticking the probe through 1" Styrofoam. It'll work. It looks like crap..

any other DIY ideas??

thanks

Would be helpful to see/get some info as to what type of container you have...

The salinity probe should not be used as the only means to measure salinity. It is a conductivity probe. If you are planning on using it to determine how much water to add, I wouldn't recommend it.

container is just a box. square acrylic box. 3x3x3ft. just like those typical fresh water acrylic containers. I need the salinity probe to always be partially submerged.

I'm using it to measure the salinity of my salt water container. I have the Genesis Renew auto water change. The salt water container is about 150gals. The probe is not needed.. but it's nice to see what's the salinity compared to my DT..

the PH probe and conductivity cannot be submerged. well, not recommended by APEX to submerge the wires

Attach a small container to put the probe in on the side/top of your mixing container. Have a small pump run water from the bottom up into the container. It will overflow back into the mixing container but keep the probes container full with whatever's in the large mixing/holding container.

thanks! this is actually something I'm trying to add in my ATO box now.. a separate box for the probes.

Question. Is there a bulkhead or some type of uniseal for APEX probes?

I don't know of any. This is what holds mine, but it's in my sump.

thanks! ya those won't work because this is for the top off bin. I stored about 200gal of salt water for auto water change. uses only 2-3 gallons a day. So the water level will change through out the month.

here is my current plan. It requires another pump, which is not ideal.. but can't work around it.

A grommet for automotive use would work

thanks! ordered some. I saw probe bulkheads on Premium Aquatics. but some say it doesn't fit APEX, some say it does.. eh

why not just attach the probe to something that floats on the surface? This would allow it to go up and down with water level. Seal a tupperware container. Or even just tie a few corks around it.

Having an extra pump in there seems like a lot of extra work long term.

If you have a mixing pump, you could split off the return and use that to fill the container too.

I'm trying to figure out a more permanent way without having so much wires going up and down.. getting tangled and mixed in with heaters.. but it is an option and I'm designing an acrylic box over styrofoam. make it look cleaner.
