Flow Accelator Thumps Up!!!!!!

Day With 2 Suns

My system consist of 2 Solana tanks. I replaced the standard pump that came with the unit with a Rio 2500 for more flow. The tanks come standard with a 1/2' return Y Loc-Line Y fitting. The Rio provided plenty of water movement but not when you take the 1/2 line and then Y it off to 2- 1/2" lines.

I then added Koralia pumps for more flow in the tanks. But as you know the Solana's are not that big so added pumps inside are distracting. I came accross the flow accelator in the Marine Depot catalog and decided to give it a shot.

I must say that it tuiely lives up to its name. It has provide so much flow that I now have removed my Koralia pumps. I also added one to my son's 12 gallon Nano that I have a Maxijet 1200. Again the water movement is great.

I have to give a thumbs up on this product. Cost $18.00 any size. Comes in 1/2, 3/4 and 1 inch sizes.

You must have a opening for a 1/2, 3/4, 1 inch MPT that will connect to a FPT PVC 90(Does not come with it) to connect your return line. The whole unit is about 5 inches long and has 2 links for adjustments if your familar with the Loc Line product and there movement of bending the pipe.

That is my story for today although these photo's don't show the changes yet. Lazy I guess.

For $18.00 its well worh it considering what internal flow pumps cost and the added electrical cost.

Thumbs up!!!

They work much like a Venturi valvue. Cuts the flow down from 1/2" to about a 3/16 inch opening thus causing a flow increase from the pressure.

The gap in there between the end and the cone shaped thingo? Why is that there? Does it suck in water?

Reason I'm asking is with my system I have seahorses and I need to be really careful with anything that draws water 'in' should they get too close and get plastered on the thing.

I recently bought 2 for my tank. They are supposed to increase flow by up to 400%.
Having kept seahorses years ago, I would not recommend using them around the ponies.
Just curious, what kind of seahorses do you keep? I really miss mine, although I don't miss the amount of work it took to keep the little buggers happy.

I don't believe that is correct. How can those opening suck in water when the flow is coming from the other direction. I put my had around the nozzle and felt no suction at all and then put some drops of Kent Marine Vitamins in a eye dropper and drops some around the nozzle and it did not suck any thing in.

Thanks for the info ... I have 2 H.Reidi and 2 H.Barbouri in my 55G cube. I run a mixed reef so balancing flow and the horses is always a challenge. I run a vortech MP20 (with a foam cover of course) and that thing is fantastic but there's just one or 2 areas along the wall that I would like some more flow.

Seahorses actually do quite well in a tank with good flow (mine is 90X turnover) - key is loads of hitches and getting them accustomed to the system so they know where the most powerful flow is. My girls all play in the current of the vortech ... they swim up into the stream, curl up and weeeeeee ---- :)

I guess maybe I should just try one of these eductors. Also a foam sleeve would also be an option.

Thanks so much for the feedback guys.
