Flow ? for xenia colony

They can tolerate anything from Low to High water flow.

Low to moderate is usually best as you will still be able to see them pulsing.

High flow will make them grow faster, but they look like a wheat field in a windstorm.

They will do best in a Moderate to High Light area, with Low to Moderate flow and plenty of growing room.

I would say low to medium, they pulse more.

IMO, it really doesn't matter. The stuff will grow crazy in just about any condition. Put it somewhere you'll be able to cut it out easily went it starts to take off.

Ghost Do they have to pulse in order to be healthy? Because mine really do

I have had the xenia at the bottom of the tank and where doing well but i just wanted to move some stuff around it seems like i have all my corals on one side of the tank thats is how all this got started.

Do they need to pulse to be happy? Good question, I wish we could even figure out why they pulse to begin with...

I've seen Xenia look just fine and grow very well while never pulsing at all. Having said that, I suspect they would do a little better when pulsing.

In my experience, low PH is usually a cause of failing to pulse, but not always. Sometimes low Iodide levels can do it as well.

Odd and mysterious little corals, Xenia.

i will check on the low PH and i have not strated Iodide yet. I pick some up before the weekends and see how it works for pulsing.

Low to medium flow they do not seem to like being blasted, likes light and they will pretty much move to where they want eventually.

The common Xenia I have gets much shorter stems and shorter tentacle "stems" in less flow, even though they get the same amount of light.

IME Iodide levels have nothing to do with their pulsing, but YMMV.

I agree low flow Mucho Pulse action i have mine at a low flow and now nonstop pulse day and night never tested water just do frequent water changes, and add 2 ml each of NATUREEF Alkalenity plus,And Hardness plus after every waterchange.

mine didn't like much flow. i had them up front in my tank where it had decent flow and they stopped pulsing...which is what i wanted them to do. I moved them to a low flow area and they started back up.
