I have an old 20H that I have a stupid sentimental attachment to (my first tank back in '86 and a gift from the girl who is now my wife) and I'd been considering starting it up again as a nano. A few days ago I had a little mishap in my 90 and had to move all my corals to a temporary home. I now have a 20H with softies in it.
This tank has never been anything but FW and I'm going to need to make a few changes to the equipment list. I picked up a new heater locally and added a HOB filter and an old MJ900 for now but I still have a long way to go. The primary issues are lighting and flow.
Another local purchase was a MJ400, now that they come with the propeller I thought it would fit my needs. I was wrong. Even with only 500 gph I had frags sliding across the bare bottom. I took the new 500 out and put the 900 back in.
What would be a good choice for this tank? I have JBJ Oceanstreams on a Red Sea wave master in my 90 and I'd considered getting the oceanstream 500s for this tank. After the MJ500 I'm worried that this could be too much. An MP10 is not in the budget. Would Koralia 425s be a better choice?
Lighting is currently a single 15w T8, obviously this is inadequate. I want to keep the original hood and plan to do a DIY LED in it. I have a PC ballast and connectors that might be a decent temporary solution if I can get a bulb that fits.
This is my first nano, I've never had a reef smaller than a 55. I'm open to suggestions.
