Flow in a 20H?

I have an old 20H that I have a stupid sentimental attachment to (my first tank back in '86 and a gift from the girl who is now my wife) and I'd been considering starting it up again as a nano. A few days ago I had a little mishap in my 90 and had to move all my corals to a temporary home. I now have a 20H with softies in it.
This tank has never been anything but FW and I'm going to need to make a few changes to the equipment list. I picked up a new heater locally and added a HOB filter and an old MJ900 for now but I still have a long way to go. The primary issues are lighting and flow.
Another local purchase was a MJ400, now that they come with the propeller I thought it would fit my needs. I was wrong. Even with only 500 gph I had frags sliding across the bare bottom. I took the new 500 out and put the 900 back in.
What would be a good choice for this tank? I have JBJ Oceanstreams on a Red Sea wave master in my 90 and I'd considered getting the oceanstream 500s for this tank. After the MJ500 I'm worried that this could be too much. An MP10 is not in the budget. Would Koralia 425s be a better choice?
Lighting is currently a single 15w T8, obviously this is inadequate. I want to keep the original hood and plan to do a DIY LED in it. I have a PC ballast and connectors that might be a decent temporary solution if I can get a bulb that fits.
This is my first nano, I've never had a reef smaller than a 55. I'm open to suggestions.

I have a 20h that's going all sps, I have 2 korallia 1050's for flow, and 4 24watt t5s for lighting. Definitely don't need that Much flow or lighting for softies. Probably 2 or 3 korallia 425's would be good for flow, and 2 24" t5s should be enough light for softies.

WOW!! Two 1050s is a lot of flow!
I guess that the MJ400 is just too directional and that other powerheads spread the flow out more so it isn't so "extreme" in certain spots. I'll look into starting with 2 Koralia 425s or Oceanstream 500s. Maybe the MJ will end up in my 90, I have a spot that might make good use of it's directional flow.
The softies are only in there temporarily, until I can get the 90 back in shape. I don't know what will end up in the 20H but I suspect it will be a mixed reef. I was surprised when my wife said she liked having the tank set up where it is and was OK with making it permanent. I'm still very early in the early planning stage.
There will never be t5s on this tank. My goal is to leave the tank and hood looking as it always has and making only discrete changes to make it functional for it's new purpose. T5s just won't fit in the hood. I'm working on a design to retrofit LEDs but it may be a while before I build it so I may use some old PC parts temporarily if I can find a decent lamp locally.
The tank is sitting on a chest of drawers with no place to put a sump so filtration will have to be in the tank or HOB. I'm leaning toward a HOB skimmer as my primary filtration.
Thanks for the info, as I said, I'm new at this and I'm a little surprised by the things I find myself having to put so much thought into when going smaller.
