Flow nightmare

I just can't decide which power heads to buy for good and SILENT flow.

Right now my 110 gallon (LPS, couple SPS), 51 inches long and almost 26 inches wide tank is powered by two Tunze 6055 powerheads on pulse mode between 30% and 100%.

Repositioning doesn't really help to reach rear corners and i think i could use more flow. I also want super silent power heads.

I was set to buy two Tunze 6095 but i'm worried it's reach could be a problem. I could get a controler and make a wave, but i'm not sure of this will solve the problem.

6105 is really big and probably an overkill (and not really silent).

I could use any advise on this topic. Would two 6095 be enough for 51" long tank, is it super silent? Or do i need to check any other pump? Vortech MP40 is very expensive and not silent also.

Got 2 mp40 qd in my tank wouldn't get anything else great flow and quiet when bedded in after a few days bit pricey tho but I think you get what you pay for

I have 2 6045's in my 110 (4ft long). I feel it is enough flow for my softies and lps. I also don't think it reaches 1 back corner the other has low flow. But it could be the rocks. They are adjustable and I have them on full stream aimed at the front glass. They are dead silent. With just them running I have to look at them to see if they are running.

Two 6095's will give you more flow than one Mp40, and twice as much flow as you have now, and more mounting options, what about a steam 3, serious flow, similar price to a mp10 and dead silent... They are big but can be slid down behind rocks in corners etc

Where i'm from, MP40qd costs 2.4x more then Tunze 6095. So it's really expensive. And from other forums talk it's noisier then 6095 also. So i can't justify this buy.

But i'm worried that 6095 won't have enough reach also...

Are there any other super silent power heads with enough flow for 110 gallon system?

I did consider Stream 3, but people tell me it's too powerfull and too big for my tank. So i'm not sure it...i would buy two, but positioning could be a problem...

You might be right as the 6095 is sold as wide flow.

The stream 3 miminun flow is only 2000 lph, max is 15000 I think, I'm planning my new tank now, a Reefer 250 an I'm intending on having four of the little 6040 tunze, they are easy to hide and you can deflect the flow up and over or around rocks... Should give a maximum turnover of about 90x an hour but on random pulse won't be anywhere near that... And hopefully with 4 shouldnt leave any dead spots.

I just put 2 Stream 3s in my 300g. The dimensions are 72Lx36Wx27H. They are AMAZING. They are DEAD silent. They replaced my 2 Gyre 280s. I have the Stream 3s at 100% and I can't hear them even with my ear right next to them.

Yes, they are large. I have mine positioned on opposite ends and opposite corners. They are mounted vertically and I'm using the directional top. So the flow goes up and then across the tank. I'm running them both at 100%. I have LPS just a few inches away directly in front and its not blasting them at all. The flow is very diffuse. I was only running 1 on the tank for a couple weeks and even that had great flow for the whole tank.

I highly recommend these power heads. I've owned MP10s, MP60s and Gyres. The Stream 3 is hands down the winner in terms of flow. If you can deal with the size, you should get one or two!

I'm tempted with two, vertically each side of the wier pointing towards the front corners, even though they are big, I think all I'll see is the deflector above the rocks... I can always run them at lower intensity until I get a bigger tank.... Which is bound to happen.

I think that would be fantastic. You'd be supprised at how diffuse the flow is even at 100%. The flow from the deflector does not come off at a 90degree angle. more like 45 degrees, so you can have stuff right in front.

These things are completely silent too. I've never had a PH so quiet.

I think two Stream 3 pumps at 60% (or pulse) would be ok on my 110 gallon. I can hide one on the lower right side horizontaly behind the rock and it would blow 90 degress into front glass and other on the left upper side verticaly or horizontaly, not sure yet. But i do have black backside of a tank.

Not sure what kind of flow i'll get...

FWIW, I bought an Icecap 1K gyre pump and ran it on my tank for a day. The flow was great (too great in my case) and it was quiet. I have a 38g tank and already have 3 MP10s on it. The MP10s are noisier for sure, but it doesn't bother me. The gyre was just way too much flow even set low and was causing a sand storm. Still, for the price I'm really impressed. I plan on keeping it and using it in a frag tank at some point.

I decided do buy 2x Tunze 6095 and 7097 controller for my 110 gallon tank. Because i'm using 2x Tunze 6055 right now without controler i'll have 2x 6055 and 2x 6095 + 7097 controller on my disposal to use in my system.

Should i use 2x 6095 + controller (or even without controller?) or should i use all 4 pumps on lower power setting? Can you plug 4 pumps in 7097 controller and would that be a better choice then 2x 6095 on higher power?

I think four pumps at lower settings will always give more flow options, the 7097 controller can do random with each pump set for min and max flow, it can also do a desediment 'storm', I'd go with all four.
