Flow recommendations?

So one area that I haven't researched is how to set up flow patterns in the display. I have a 75 gal and the return is a 3/4 loc line Y with two flared openings. Varios 6 return pump.
Would 2 powerheads be enough and what brand/model would be recommended?
Also need help with placement.
Thanks!

Two powerheads should be enough. But if the budget is OK with it, doing 3 or 4 smaller wavemakers might even be better. It isn't so much getting the 'right' flow as it is getting a random enough flow that changes all the time. The current crop of wavemaking pumps with various speeds and modes make that pretty easy these days.

I have a 125g and I have black background so I put 2 wavemakers on the back facing the front and up enough to get some surface water movement. At one end I have a gyre/crossflow that creates a good flow along the top and the bottom of the tank.

In general (very general guidelines) you want 3-10x display tank for flowrate through sump and 30-100x display for "total flow" in a tank which includes return pump and powerheads..

Above 50x is usually for high flow corals (SPS tanks,etc..) with heavier grain sands,etc...and 30-50x is normally plenty for most applications..

I have 75 gallon tank and using Jebao RW8 wavemaker. To me one is providing a lot of random flow. You can also go for 2 rw-4. They are cheap but very well built.
