Flow & Spacing HELP...3" x 6" overflow box

I have a new tank build going and want to maximize the real estate with a small overflow box. Tank will be 28" x 24" with a 3" x 6" box.

Will I be restricted in ANY WAY with flow over this box surface area???

Overflow will contain a 1" drain & 3/4" return. A Durso standpipe will be trimmed down to fit if necessary...do you think this will work as intended???

Appreciate your help! :bounce1:

Depends on the pump and the flow curve. I am unable to calculate your system volume to turnover rate since you left out a tank measurement. If you are using 3 sides on the overflow box you may be ok but if its one side that will increase the restriction. If you could add a photo or two of the overflow box/design that would help.

Tank will be 28x24x18 with a right corner overflow. The 3x6 box will take water on 2 sides for a total of approx 9 inches of surface area thru typical acrylic teeth. I'm running a mag 9.5 but will be throttled back until the flow is maximized. Hoping a Durso standpipe and return will fit without too much trouble in that small of an area.

If you plan on dialing back the pump then I don't see an issue with your specs. The stand pipe will fit in there but I would loose fit it instead of gluing the connections so you can maintain it if needed.

just buy a kit from gl*******s, make ur life easier. don't try to cram too much stuff in a 6" span. drill another hole for your return, and you'll have some clean lines.

28" isn't a long tank. id go with a single hole overflow @ 1 1/2" and call it good. a mag 9.5 is waay overkill, and wouldn't be at the top of my list of pumps to use.
