i have a 29 gal tank.. with torch , hammer, open brain , xenias and toadstool. i plan on adding more softies .. how much flow should i have in there.. right now i have a maxijet-900 and a aqua powerhead on full blast.. seems too much.. but i seen how most harp thats not enough flow so i was wondering.. cos my hammer and torch seem to be not enjoying the current.. which i know they like moderate flow.. so i was kinda puzzled by this.

I have 30x flow in my 40g mixed reef. I keep polyps, softies, lps, and sps. I would aim for at least 20x minimum, but would be better if you could bump it up even a bit more. So, that would be a minimum of 580gph. Add up all your powerheads and filters (don't include skimmer) and see what you get.

well the maxijet i have is like 230 gph then i have the hang on filters that come with regular fresh water tanks.. for a 29 gal..

Ok, do you know the gph rating for the hang on filters? What make/model are they?

also your powerheads are a straight balst of water, so if they are pointed at a coral dead on that will be why they don't like it also. which is why alot of ppl are adding powerheads like seio's, mj mods, tunze, ect. because that breaks up the flow a good bit not just one stream. but i also like to go for at least 20-30x turn over, even though i have 68x in my tank and still want more

A Tunze Nanostream 6025 would be a good choice for a 29g.

I'm going to be adding two more powerheads to my 30 gallon tomorrow to bring the total flow to 1675/hr or about 55x per hour. Indirect flow is the best, let it bounce off of the glass before getting to the corals

Does the size of the tank have any bearing on the amount flow? I have a 75g fowlr that i want to upgrade.
