Flower Anemone

Anyone around here have any experience with flower anemones? I'm thinking about getting one or two from Ebay, but I want to check what other's experiences are first.

From what I understand, they can become as invasive as aiptasia or mojanos.

I would watch them closely.

Maybe we're talking about two different species. I think you're thinking of the little "tulip" mojano anemones. I'm talking about the flower anemone: Epicystis crucifer.

ive had one for about 6 months.. the things are easy to take care of. i hand feed mine mysis shrimp about 3 times a week. i let him fend for himself the other 4 days.

they are real easy to care for and i haven't had any problems.

Capncapa: don't stop sniffing the glue, you won't be able to "hold" everything together, anymore.:p:rollface::D

llewoh05: have you saw much in the way of movement about the aquarium, or has it stayed parked where you put it? Do you have it somewhat shaded, or out in full light? Finally, have you saw much in the way of growth?

They are probably the hardiest anemonies I've kept. I feed them guppies once in a blue moon otherwise they just mine their own business. They don't really move around after they land a favorate spot. It is ideal if you can keep a porcelin crab with it to keep it healthy in the long run. Their tentacles are too short to host most other stuff.

Do you have it in full light of MH, or is it somewhat shaded? Also, does it bury its foot into the sandbed or into a rock crevice?

It will extend its foot and stick to whatever stable surface there is under them. And since they will travel around in the tank, you won't really have full control of where it wants to be. so don't worry about placement too much. I have mines under PC and they do great. Though more intense lighting probably would give your anemone better coloration but they will do just fine in medium lighting. I do offer them meaty food light shrimp and feeders once in a while though.

I have mine almost 1 yr,same spot since day 1.I feed her maybe once a month, really hardy anemones and nice coloration.:D

This is mine (easy to care for I have four of these and one other I need to take a photo of) I like them.
I feed them a small whitebait couple of times a week.
We have dark red ones in NZ have managed to keep a few in my tank they like it in dark places, where as the others like light.

I got one as a hitchhiker on some liverock. It has moved once in three months (to a spot about two inches away). (I've got PC lighting as well, but the anemone is perched fairly high in the tank). It seems to do pretty well with frozen mysis or brine shrimp. It looks awesome under the actinics and the moon lights.

so porcelain crabs will host the anemone?

No, but the anemone might host the crab.

I just saw this thread.

I have had my flower anemone for 5 years now. It is green and white and very hardy. About 5 to 6" across when happy. I feed it every other day a nice size (1/2") shrimp. My cinnamon clown, a *****y 6 year old female has adopted it as her home. I'm sure she drives it nuts. She almost killed by Rose BTA which I had to remove from the display tank to save her. The flower anemone takes it and doesn't seem bothered. When I removed the rose, the clown returned to its former home, the flower anemone.

It attached in a rock crevice at the bottom of the tank which is lit by halides. It has never moved.

I also had an orange one, very beautiful but didn't make it.

I got mine from Reeftopia in Florida.

I'm going to wait until the weather warms up a bit to order mine. I'm looking at some on Ebay that are colored really nicely. There was one that hard orange tentacles and a brown base and some that are the green and white ones. I got rid of the clown that I had because it had decided to take up house in my open brain. The open brain started receding and then started showing skeleton, so I sold the clown back the LFS. Have you got any pics of your flower anemone?

I think the person on Ebay must be the same person that own Refftopia. They are both from the Keys and the pictures looked very similar. They are both selling nearly the same items. Anyway though, I like the green and white f anemone.
