flukes?

Just got a cbb and today its acting strange.

Twitching, opening its mouth like a stretch, darting, its almost like somethiing is itching it

No visible dots or anything, it looks really healthy and it doesnt rub rocks

I was gonna do a fw dip but cant catch him. Do you think its flukes? Hes my only livestock so i can treat in tank with prozi but i want an expert to green light

I did a 10% wc today and will wait a week before i do anything bc u want him to continue eating

Also: sg is 1.025-1.026. 0 nitrite. 10 nitrate but made water change after reading . Ph 8.4 ish. temperature 79-80 tank is 4 months old

Sounds similar to some of the symptoms to gill flukes. If you put him in your DT already then just monitor him as much as you can and feed him fat. Healthy foods soaked in amino acids and vitamins will help promote immune system. Try feeding live blackworms as I hear they take to them very well for some reason. I wouldn't try to stress him out much as that will allow some bacterial infections to take over.

Im feedung hikari mysis that have vitamin c and other things how about dipping it in garlic extreme i think ive,read garlic helps them?


Hes eating good but his behavior worries me.

Ill give him time maybe he cant fight it off on his own bc its not serious

Some people have dosed it directly into their main tank with little negative effects. I'm a chicken so I just put the fish in a QT and treat there.

Some people have dosed it directly into their main tank with little negative effects. I'm a chicken so I just put the fish in a QT and treat there.

+1 Prazi is a relatively gentle med and most fish tolerate it very well. It's reef safe except for feather dusters, so if the fish is eating well go ahead and dose. For flukes you'll need to run 2 5-day treatments (because prazi doesn't kill fluke eggs, you need the second to kill newly hatched flukes before they reproduce).

Unfortunately as Newsmyrna80 stated, a strong immune system won't help the fish with the flukes, though it will help lower the chance of a secondary bacterial or viral infection. Flukes are a parasite, and as long as they have a living host their numbers will grow until the fish is overwhelmed. Gl with treatment!

After the first treatment, do a water change and wait two days before dosing the second treatment (that's what I do). Remember that the skimmer and uv need to stay off during the treatment period.

Update: more yawning and dorsal fin raising. Twitching.

I now see lil white spots only on the clear part of the tail. Looks like dandruff or lice. Dossnt look like ich.

The bumbs are not raised its very small and like spots like bugs..
Is it 100% its flukes or ich?

It sounds like flukes but google images of ich to compare against your fish. Can you post a pic of your fish?

Update: im 110% sure my fish has gill and skin flukes. Ive let my cbb settle in and fatten up but hes still twitching, yawning, and for the first time i seen.him scratch on a rock

No parasites are visible thats how im sure its flukes. I cant catch him to fw dip him but if it was ich id see spots and only gill ich is very unlikely from what ive been watching.

No eye clouds tho but what else could it be?

tomorrow im going to see if any lfs has prazi pro

Im going to make a water change, dose for a week, water change, take a 2 days off, dose for another week then observe. Is this good?

Also its a butterfly fish and ive heard its very common for them to have flukes

Cloudy eyes are not a necessary symptom to be flukes. Yes, some species of fish are more susceptible to flukes, butterfly fish being one of them. Is this fish in a QT? Have you treated since your first post?

No treatment yet, ive just been feeding vitamin enriched food with garlic i didnt want to stress him out ive only had him a week
