Flushing out unwanted creatures

Hi, wasn't sure where to post this. I just got a bunch of live rock for my new tank. The live rock from Live aquaria had directions on flushing out pest from your rock. I already have 3 hitchiking crabs, and my biggest fear is getting a Mantis. The directions state to place each piece of rock in a tub of salt water sg 1.035- 1.040. It states that all crabs and shrimp will leave the rock and you can then sort through the critters left in the tub...Anyone hear of this? can Mantis or crabs tolerate such high salinity? is there another method to flush out pest?
Thanks

yes that is all gsr says, get you more posts that way.

on to the subject. non eof the critters would survive that high of salinity. carbonated water will flush mantis shrimp out of holes. ore you can just make a soda bottle trap.

for the soda bottle trap cut the tip of the soda bottle of where it starts to get to the same length of the bottom part of the bottle. take the narrow end and stick it into the bottom part of the bottle. use soemthing that will work to hold it togetther, do not use somthing that will poison water. put a piece of shrimp in and let it sit in the tank over night. also put sand in the bottle to keep it siting on the bottom. by morning you should have tons of critters in the bottle, assort them and see if any one wants a pet mantis on the forums. o and post pics!

Thanks Hutton..I caught previous hitchhikers by using a jar, I'll try a bottle, it will be easier to keep the food in

I got another crab in my newly set up reef and some other 'thing' in a rock and I am dying to see what that 'thing' is;)
