Fluval Edge 6 Gallon Build

my friend just picked up a 10 gallon set with all the accessories form the LFS for 60 bucks and its rimless... the hood covers the top like a trimwould but without the hood on its rimless i think it was marineland??? but it was a deal and deffinatly rimless

hmmm ill look into it. as of right now the fluval stays...parents orders haha:spin1:

do you think you will have to upgrade the lighting any further on this?, ive been interested in getting one just because of the clean look to them

I am also interested what type of light you do. I just bought a edge and im really considering the nanotuners led setup but 300 bucks is retarded. please keep us informed . ( I buy most of my stuff in the Bloomington In. petco to so stay out of there!) :fun2:

MOST DEFINITELY. the stock lighting is a joke for reef tanks, and the mr11s i bought are good and may do the job, but there are still shadows at the edge of the tank that i am displeased with. i currently have my old Current USA fixture on the hood...but im most likely gonna buy the nanotuners Fluval Edge LED fixture...i mean its seems pretty good and they have youtube videos on it too. i'll snap an updated pic of the tank tonight and post it for you guys

finally!!! a hoosier i can relate to! haha. you're lucky man, you have premium aquatics up in indy for fish and coral. i have to drive there pretty much any time i want to buy some serious supplies/livestock. yea i agree on the nanotuners system, but it looks pretty sick in their youtube videos. they show how they include a dimmer with the system and it seems pretty legit. most likely thats what i'll do.

i dont think the dimmer comes with the nanotuners light. and i need to update my profile i actually live in spencer . but i would like to go to premium some day. lol my favorite place is inland aquatics in terre haute. im also looking for a video of somebody using the nanotuners led on the edge with coral,lr and sand just to see what it really looks like before i buy it.

ah gotcha. i could've sworn it did tho, check out this youtube video im pretty sure he says it does in it, or one of the videos he has of the system. hmm never been to inland, a little too far for me anyway haha. premium is AMAZING, you gotta take a trip sometime its definitely the place to buy from. great prices too and you sorta can haggle for stuff...sometimes. yea this guy only has the light in a tank without water...a little sketchy but idk it seems decent lemme know what you think about the video:::

UPDATE: I finally decided on the lighting! Today i purchased a Panorama LED Module from Ecoxotic (ecoxotic.com). I ordered the White/Blue combo module, and from what i've read and seen in videos this thing should do exactly what i want. the light is around 12 inches long, though, so i'm going to be creating another hood for my tank. most likely i'll just silicon some acrylic together and then spray paint the outside of the acrylic to math the base of the Edge. Any thoughts, reefers?

i just got a email back from nanotuners. Here is a copy !

1. The fixture sits down into the rim approximately 3/16".
2. Yes, the Edge system includes the Duo 700 driver enclosure.
3. Unfortunately right now a tank set up is not possible. However, I can assure you the entire tank is lit up by the fixture. We will do what we can to illustrate things better as soon as I get a little bit more free time to update/enhance product pages.

That just sold me.

I knew it came with that dimmer!! Too late though man, I decided to just get the Panorama Module, more economical and I actually was able to see how it looked on a tank WITH water in it! That sold me!

well originally i only found this link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=__g1AD0MxF4
which shows the panorama fixture, and not the module itself, over a tank. This is really similar though, i mean its the same thing just like 5 of the modules instead of one but it shows you an idea of the color scheme you'll get. there is an actual panorama module video by ecoxotic, found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cfPveyEKuK0
but it only shows the module with a freshwater tank. i can take a video of it on my fluval edge with and without the mr11s on, it sort of creats a lighting purple/blue look on the tank which i really like. i might eventually get an actinic stunner strip for dawn/dusk effect, but as for now i'm set.

Ya that is a pretty nice led setup but how are you putting it on the tank ? Im interested to see it working so please keep me posted. i wanna see yours setup before i order one.

yea i'll take a vid this weekend. right now its just sitting on the top glass part in front of the hood. in my opinion its not too obtrusive to the overall uniqueness of the tank. you dont really notice it when you look straight on. currently i think im gonna keep it just sitting there and not deal with making a new hood, because Fluval's hood is so perfectly fitting the the tank and stand thing that i dont wanna mess it up, idk maybe i'm lazy then haha. you should post some pics of your own tank too man, it'd be sweet to see how its comin.

Ill try to post some friday if you could give me some pointers on how to do it. lol i tryed the
think and i cant get it. i even tryed it with the little post picture thing on here and it wont work. ill try again though.

Do u only have one led module running with mr11s ? or will the led module light it up buy its self ?

Well the easiest method for posting pics is to upload the pictures to photobucket, which will give you an image code which you can just paste into the message. For now I have the mr11s and the module bc the hood obstructs dimwit the light from the module, thus the module can't reach the middle back part of the tank. The mr11s cover the part of the tank directly below them and behind them so I don't mind having them. The light throughout the tank isnt exactly uniform in color but I think it blends well

Hmm that's an interesting idea, I'm no sumper tho I tried and found it excessive so stopped haha. Im likin the black sand, its always a cool take on tanks. Is that a Condy anemone in there too?
