now is time to update - powder brown/whitecheek tang on hospital tank seems very healthy, thanks God!

today I started the 4th stage of 3 day tank transfer w/ hypo so far so good, I'm heavily feeding it with Thera A+, Nori, Tetra Veggie and powder Cyclop-Ezee, checkout this pic:

The "powder brown" you have is a white cheek tang, A. Japonicus they are a lot hardier than their gold rim cousins, A. nigricans. I would assume that he will be fighting fit soon if he keeps a healthy appetite

White Cheek Tang, Acanthurus nigricans: There's a never-ending mix-up with the name of this tang, as it's also often called the powder brown tang or gold rimmed tang. The powder brown looks a lot like it, but is actually a different species altogether, thus the name really shouldn't be used. Powder browns are A. japonicus (see below). Anyway, these are yet another great looking tang, with different colors, but a very similar pattern to the powder blue tang. They also max out at a little over 8 inches, and generally are not aggressive.

Powder Brown Tang, Acanthurus japonicus: The powder brown tang also reaches a maximum size of a little over 8 inches and is a relatively peaceful species, too. However, for reasons unknown, these tend to be less hardy than the white cheek tang. If you have trouble telling them apart, note that the white cheek tang has a small patch of white under its eyes, but the powder brown tang has much larger white areas that cover most of its face.

my fox face just jump out from QT and dropped behind the tank between the cabinet and the wall... in a 1/2" vain... in an inaccessible place :hmm2:

ok, the rescue operation took about 5 min I guess... I tried to drag out the entire cabinet, qt, qt sump, plumbing... what a mess! he was struggling I had to be fast and did not measure the consequences... after that I used screwdriver, yep a screwdrive - that was the only thing available and fits that place to push him in place a little bit more accessible where I finally can grab him by the tail - ohh shitt :uhoh2: and putted him again in QT - he was absolutely filthy - you know... dust, hair, every sort of thing the comes behind the cabinets and other places... shhiiit :sad1:


right now he keeps swimming, slowly but swimming, eating something here and there not like before this tragic event.. ok, let's wait to see what's gonna happen... :sad2:

That sucks! I had a Massuda Hogfish jump out (through the net top I have on the tank) and my wife and I didn't notice. I'm not sure how long he had been on the floor when I found him. Put him back in the tank and held him in front of the powerhead to blow all the air out of his mouth. I let him go and he drifted to the bottom of the tank. I was watching and thinking "this guy is gone" I was almost ready to pull him back out and flush him when I noticed his gills move and within a few minutes he was breathing but still just laying on the sand. I had to leave and thought he would be dead when I got back, but to my surprise he was swimming around like everything was great. These fish can be pretty tough. I hope yours turns out just as well!

if hes swimming, then there is a chance!

you might look into a screened top or some kind of netting to place on the back or perimeter of the tank if you dont want to put a top on. you can always make a wood boarder that sits on top of the tank. that way any jumpers will be deflected back in the tank? just a thought.

Interesting build and yes, that's a Powder Brown tang. Ich is very common amongst tangs.. you may want to use UV for a week or so.

just take a look at this first pic I got it today's early morning: every single day this motherf...ker wake up like this... I know its "normal" for him... but you know... sounds like awful to me

god damnit! I have really bad news to tell you all... the powder brown has died... I really don't known why.. what happened... Today in the morning I's doing my tank's checklist, you know, same old same old and I saw the pdb layed down on substrate without brething, no moviment, nothing...

water parameters are excelent:
ammonia: 0 - salifert
nitrite: 0 - salifert
nitrate: 6 - pinpoint / 10 salifert
phophate: 0 - hanna
orp: 365 (avg/day)

I don't add anything - additives, pwc, corals, fishies, carbon, nothing in the past 20 days... A couple days ago I friend of mine come to my home and brought to me a chunk of cheato this was the only thing added... I don't know... what do you guys think?

Powder browns and blues are some of the hardest fish to keep from everyonne ive talked to. i wouldnt get too down on yourself, between the capturing methods and the low survivability rate as it, its luck of the draw sometimes

you may be right Robb, but how explain the pd blue death... he was one of the most happiest fish in the tank... swimming and eating a lot... this is a disaster...
