Does this count as minimalist aquascaping??


I figured I would show some pics of just the rockwork, as once all my colonies get moved over and mounted, it will be impossible to tell just how little rock was used.

that was pretty much my wifes reaction as well.

Along with wondering how in the h e double L I was going to fit even a small fraction of my colonies on those rocks.


It will look quite different as it comes together

Once the corals are in place, I think this could be a real stunner with some crazy depth.

Definitely minimalist, will there be more LR located in a sump? You'll definitely have plenty of room for corals to grow. Look forward to seeing how it turns out.

If got about 15 lbs elevated in a chamber in the sump with a bunch of lfow through it. Ive been running tanks with much less rock than most for years. While it doesnt take much to get the job done, it does take more than what is in this display for sure

because that would give it even less depoth than that of a rock wall.

this system is several years old. I have a bunch of colonies that are over a foot across and countless others. Not all of my largest colonies will even get a spot in this tank. Not sure exactly who is going to go where. It will take shape as I start mounting. Working on this here and there, if Im done with this in a month Ill be happy.

Thats pretty cool. A garden of acans and lps with stags glued on the rocks creating the structure and depth.

Did you just glue them on the bottom panel? Are you sure they're secured enough for heavier tables?

haha thats what i was thinking, i read an article or post of a guy with a super sized (1000) gallons tank that basically took this approach had some slabs to glue acros to and was gonna watch it for 20 years lol. I hope its still running for him.

I'm definately interested to see what the end result is. I like open aquascapes but don't think I have seen anything that minimalistic!

3/4" acrylic rod, 1/2" deep 3/4" holes drilled into 3/4" hdpe.

any single one of them could hold an entire reef on its own

I was kinda thinking the same thing. Specifically, which one(s) do you think I should remove??


You cant see them unless you know they are there and really look, but there are probably 15 or so other holes in the hdpe floor of that tank, and I can atually move stuff around to wherever I want with 100% stability in seconds.

Most likely the end result once I start moving and mounting will vary some depending on how things fall into place. If I couldnt remove them with ease, the mounting part of this little project would suck even more than its going to already.
