Flys New Scape

Glad to see someone else still using HDPE. I don't see it mentioned too often anymore. Looks good!

Drew

thanks :) I like the white base, and the 3/4" hdpe is key for my acrylic rod program for 100% stability, and the cool angles you can create with the rock

are you running any remote sand bed? what is your "dosing" plan? (reactor/balling/dosing?)

thanks!

no sand. Nor do I use refugiums nor run GFO in any of my tanks. Just skimmers and high flow. I use randys two part

Very interesting and cool. What size tank is this?

its a 240. 640 total gallon system. This tank is a custom built 1" Envision Acrylics, external toothless coast to coast overflow, true eurobrace. Flow is provided with an OM 8way powered by a hammerhead, and 4 Tunze. 2- 6125's, and 2- 6205's.

Here are a couple shots of what my sps tanks currently look like, and some of what I will be moving over.

I have had my corals laying around packed in like you see here for over a year since I moved. If everything didnt seem more or less happy I would have gotten off my butt and set up this display many months ago.........but with only a few exceptions, not many seemed to mind so it made it real easy to procrastinate it. It did give me lots of time to think about what I really wanted to do with it.

thanks. Luck is certainly something I have needed here. This remounting thing is somewhat dangerous business for sure. Ive actually gotten a lot done in the last couple days, and despite some somewhat abusive treatment here and there everything so far *knock on wood*seems to be handling the handling ok.

I have burned through 8 extra large sticks of aquamend so far, and have certainly had some carnage here and there. No dead carnage or anything, just the shattering that happens when you need to get a couple branches out of your way and it doesnt quite work out according to plan.

One stag in particular was pretty much horrible. I might as well have tossed it up in the air and hit it with a baseball bat. It was one of my largest and when I went to take a branch, I ended up with just the large branch I was holding on to in my hand, and the rest dropped to the concrete floor. :hmm3:

<WBR>interesting! can't wait to see it fully stocked locked & loaded!!

Thanks Steve :) Im working on it and have most of the difficult to mount stags I am going to be using done, so it shouldnt actually take too much longer.

Its done stocked for fish. A bunch of stupid colorful little blue damsels, a couple wrasse, hogfish, a chevron and those two beasty nasos.

70 some inches of aquamend down. Not quite done as there are a couple spots I dont love. Many of them are just pegged in place and not solid yet.

Do you worry that over time the two Naso's will get stressed with lack of hiding/sleeping places?

you cant see it, but behind that tort rock on the left I do have a slab leaning up against the back wall and that is where those guys sleep.
I dont have much more rock than this in any of my tanks and currently have 14 tangs total, several of them pretty good sized and its been like this for years. None are near as big as these two bad boys though. Theres also a chevron in this tank. They all seem to love all the open space not having much rock provides.

I havent had this pair for very long. Just a couple weeks ago I noticed a little weight loss showing. You can see it if you look closely in the first pics they are in in this thread. Im working on it....hard They didnt lose any apparent width, just a little where the usual dent shows up in fish that arent eating enough. Ive got it under control now though and even now just a week or so later after those pics they look much better. Ill take a couple fresh pics of the fish in the next day or two.

To be perfectly honest, their little bit of weight loss had nothing to do with a new home or stress. It was all on me slacking on the food. Even though I have had lots of different tangs and always feed them well, none of them were ever this big and I simply didnt get it in concern to how much these two can, and need to actually eat. I thought feeeding them 2-3x as much as the rest made sense and would be fine. I was wrong. As already said......Im working on it and making fast progress. All will be well. I LOVE this pair, they are a sight to behold. :)

Looks nice Bill.

thanks :)

I see where you're headed with this. very cool man. I have entertained similar concepts.

More just thought about it really. I like it.

have you considered mounting any to the bottom directly?

who needs rock when you have reef building corals!

Its going to be easier to keep clean that is for sure.....and looks great.

I will think of this every time I accidentally drop a frag in the depths of my live rock and don't feel like tearing the tank down to get it.

Looking good. I like the rock work and CL setup. Those big Naso's should feed the sps nicely. Requesting pics of sump and filtration.

Thanks for the kind words all :)

Im pleased with it...a little tweaking left here and there and possibly a few more additions before I let her be. It will be at least a month before I get my lights down as well so it wont look so dim lit in the back. I have them cranked up pretty high at the moment to be safe.

no lost frags in this tank thats for sure. :)

Ill work on some pics for you although theres not much to look at. An orca 250 and a 180 gallon sump with nothing in it but a little bit of rock, a powerhead and a old power compact light to keep sump trigger happy. My niger stopped playing well with others a year or so ago so he gets the sump to himself

A year in the hole for not playing nice with others? Your like the warden from Shawshank. What do you do when your kid forgets to put away their toys?

When my boy forgets to put away his toys the first time I beat him and duct tape him to the closet wall for 2 days.........when it happens again I make him to put whichever toys he left out through the woodchipper himself without wearing any safety goggles.

Is that wrong??

As far as the trigger.........Its a home....not a hole. I take pretty good care of him down there and it isnt exactly your usual sump. ;)

After having him for years he suddenly killed three fish. It started with a single new addition.........he enjoyed it so much he decided pretty much everyone was fair game after that. He is one of my favorite fish ever to be honest. If I thought his new home wasnt more than acceptable I would have found him a new one.
