foaming skimmer

I recently had to treat my tank for red slime algae. I am happy with the outcome and my fish are doing fine. However, now my skimmer is foaming and causing micro bubbles to be let back into the tank. I am going to do a water change hoping that it will help to reduce the foaming but how much of a water change should I do? Or is there another remedy for this problem?

Well, water change won't really help. What kind of skimmer is it? Try reducing the amount of air entering the water line to decrease the amount of bubbles if possible.

Will take about a week for it to go back to normal. Nothing wrong with it, just let it do it's thing. If you don't like bubbles, or they are presenting a risk to livestock, just close off air.

First of all, what treatment did you use? Most products, like Chemi-Clean call for the skimmer to be turned off during treatment.

I don't remember what brand it was and the directions didn't indicate that I should turn off the skimmer. I did turn it off after it had started to foam. The next day I took it out and thoroughly cleaned it with hot water. It foamed less but still foamed nonetheless. It has been producing about 3/4 of a cup of very light skimmate daily.
