Follow Up Ich Question

My tank had a bout of ich... 3 fish died.

The rest of the fish survived. My assumption is they were immune to it.

There's no sign of illness in any fish today.

Is the ich still in the tank? Do I need to do hypo-salinity for the whole system to "clear" the tank of ich?

Now that the sick fish are dead and gone.... what's the post-ich clean up?

Thanks
Mark

The parasite is in the system now. You can either manage that... or pull the remaining fish, treat them, and leave the tank fishless for 72+days.

Or if you don't have any inverts that you care about, you can hypo the display. Keep close track of the salinity, and watch the ammonia just in case.

I don't have any inverts I care about... will the hypo salinity hurt corals?

Let's say I remove all my corals to a separate tank. Leave the fish in the display. Reduce the salinity in the display to 1.008. How long do I leave the fish and DT at 1.008???

After that, I get the salinity back up to 1.023... and re-introduce the corals. Correct?

Also, the refugium that doesn't have any fish in it.... doesn't need to be treated... right??

That could potentially work.

Somewhere around 30 days for hypo I believe.

The corals would have to be out of the display for the 72+ days.

Okay....

1) remove all corals to refugium... 120gallon tank.... no fish in it. Keep the salinity at 1.023.

2) keep the fish in the display.... lower the salinity to 1.008.

Keep it that way for 80 days.

Ich in the DT was killed by reducing the SG to 1.008.
Ich in the refugium and on the corals was killed by having no fish available to "host" for 80 days.

Whole system is now clear.

3) Raise the salinity in the DT back to 1.023.
4) Re-introduce the corals.

Is that a sound and rationale plan??

It sounds like a good plan
