food for my fish

Hi I bought a 1 inch clown and a 1.75 inch six line wrasse which are both in quarantine. I am feeding then once a day alternating between frozen cyclops and marine cuisine from San Francisco bay foods. They both seem to be eating ok, but should I be mixing in anything else like brine shrimp? They are both pretty small so I'm trying smaller food. Thanks!
 
I'd feed two or three times a day if at all possible.

I feed my fish a large variety of foods, often time they eat better than I do. Some of the things I feed to my fish include: oyster in the shell (for angels, butterflies, etc), clams on the half shell (same as oyster), chopped scallop, chopped table shrimp, mysis shrimp, Nutramar Ova, brine shrimp (spirulina enriched) as a treat, Formula 1 and 2 flakes, and NLS pellets. I switch up the food every feeding to give as much variety as possible.
 
Do you guys ever feed live blackworms? Its not one of their natural diets, but live food is packed with lots of nutritional value.
 
I mainly feed Spectrum (you can get as small as 0.5mm pellets for small fish) soaked in garlic guard as well as frozen mysis on a daily basis....
once in awhile I change it up with some Rod's and Cyclops

Black works are good to get finicky fish like butterflyfish eating to start with. The trouble is that there is a possibility of black worms leading to fatty deposits in the body which are not good for the fish. I'm thinking along the lines of what happens to fish fed live freshwater fish (ie. lionfish being fed goldfish...). Just something to think about so it is only used as a treat.

You should rethink the garlic soaking. It is known to cause liver and other organ damage to saltwater fish.

Agreed the goldfish is terrible feeders, especially to the fish's liver.
IME in the freshwater side, many Discus breeders feed blackworms as the main staple. My previous freshwater aquarium society often did group buys for live blackworms since they are rich in nutrition. Its usually the only live food they fed to their fish. I'm just not sure if people feed these types of worms in the saltwater side.
 
Thanks everyone for your replies. I only feed them small meals once/day since they are in a 10g QT. They are also still pretty small so I don't want to overfeed. For those who give their fish chopped up seafood that is not prepackaged, do you put it in a blender and then freeze it? Or do you buy fresh everyday?

If you keep up on WCs and depending on your filtration in the QT you could get away with another feeding or two. Smaller fish need more food as they are usin the energy to grow, much more than adult fish do. IIRC, fish grow their entire lives, but the rate at which thy do so slows as they age.

I chop up my food into bite-size pieces for the fish then put it in a bag. At that point I flatten out the bagel the food is evenly flat in the bag, then freeze.
