food partially defrosted

I accidentally left a bunch of mysis shrimp and angel formula out of the freezer for an hour or so and it partially defrosted. I seem to remember hearing somewhere that once the food defrosts it loses its nutritional value.

Does anyone know if this is true? Its expensive stuff to throw away, but if its useless I'd rather throw it away than harm my fish.

thanks in advance for any advice

I dont think its a matter of losing nutrtional value, more of food poisoning. I think as long as it is still very cold it should be OK. It needs to stay cold enough to inhibit growth of bacteria. I am not definite on this, but it is a worry with human frozen food and so I treat my animals foods the same way.

Well I've thawed out several different kinds and made my own cubes so if it didn't get warm I wouldn't worry about it.

You can also enrich it with Zoe, Selcon, or what ever other nutrients you like.

yeah,,, my thoughts also....... i wouldn't risk it....

If it was out for only an hour, you will be fine. The basic rule is that if frozen/refriged. food is in the temp. danger zone for over 4 hours, not to use it. The zone is in-between 40 - 140.

This was from my food sanitization class that I had to take back when I managed a bar.
