Hi am a young Italian lover, I really like clams, and you wonder if someone and 'never seen after 1 week the mantle edge begins to fray, as if gnawed ....
My values are calcium 430, KH 8.0, 1300 and Mg phosphates kept at bay with resins range from 0.01 to 0.08 as the resins are exhausted, the pool and 'enlightened with 2x 400 10,000 9 hours per day and administered 50 mg ozno 4 hours at night. I did not bother the animals on his cloak .. never seen anyone bite the phenomenon and 'appeared since I started using resins based on aluminum fixed and since I brought the photoperiod from 7 to 9.5 ore.Nessuno knew answer ....
Healthy Mg, boron, potassium and K do not fit but Doso 5 ml of potassium chloride per day ...
Someone here makes me think that has an excess of something in the tank .... but .. the thing 'is still unknown. iodine not Doso more 'but change the 100 to 580 months on the net water.

To generalize and what 'had fraying of the mantle? Lack of organic food? too much stress?

This is my tank http://www.reefitalia.net/forums/showthread.php?t=40375

i can't see your tank as i need to be registered in the site. can you post a pic here?
from what i think you're saying, i think you have too much going on chemical wise, measuring this and that, dosing here and there.

I am experiencing the same thing with my crocea but not my deresa. I have yet to figure it out. Keep me posted if you find out the cause of it.

I would pay close attention to this guy in your tank-

There are reports of copperbands being clam nippers on the interwebs. One report mentions that if the clam is placed in the rockwork it is fine, if however the clam is in the sand bed the copperband goes after it immediately. This clearly suggests that within this species there are individuals that have a preference for tasty tender clam mantles.

I have a cocea, derasa and a small green maxima. My corcea is doing the same thing, it still expands and reacts to changes in light etc. But some of the edges kinda curl and some look a little frayed. Its in a gentle current and I havent seen any of my fish even look at it. The derasa and maxima show now sighns of this. I have not been super concerned about this though its color is fine and it still expands and reacts good so I was just figuring its a phase its going through.
