For my own information - who we are

Who are we? I know a bunch of you guys know each other from days past or just time on the board here, but might a timely re-introduction be appropriate for us newer folks? In my short time here I know most names, but nothing about you guys otherwise.

Me, well hi, I'm Nate, 32 and a powder chemist in the Chicago area for a major coatings manufacturer. I just got my camera at the end of June after figuring out that I really needed a decent camera when I was very unhappy with the limitations of my point-n-shoot. I looked back at old fishing trip photos and realized this had been calling for a long, long while - I was taking photos through the lenses of my polarized glasses and more shots of the river, landscape, etc than fish. And they were good pics too, just not as crisp as a DSLR would allow.

Your turn.

This is me. Shot film long before digital. Really got back into shooting when I joined RC.

Good idea Nate!

my name is Jay. I live in Wisconsin but am in transition of moving back to Oregon where I lived for 25 years previously. Ive been a contractor most of my professional life. I am one of the few here that has no tank. I was a member here for quite a few years previously when I did have a wonderful tank...

I was playing with the idea of building new tank which is why I returned to RC. But alas Ive only been active in the photography forum and have really enjoyed the folks here.
Ive been using a dslr for about 5 years now

And since Jesse posted a selfie.....

Hi, I'm Nick. I'm from Pittsburgh, but live in the Philadelphia area (please, pity me), and work as an engineer in the IT field. I've only been shooting with a DSLR for about a year now, and really wish I got started sooner after looking through old vacation photos. My wife might disagree with that, however, given that now a section of my luggage is dedicated to my equipment. :) Like Jay, I tend to stay mostly in the Photography subforum these days.

I've been shooting semi-professionally for about 8 years. I was much more active with it while I was still living in CA. I spent 50-60 days in Yosemite each year either for my own personal shooting or teaching folks in workshops.

My day gig is a senior level sys admin position with the NM State Police. While most of my job is Unix administration I maintain our VMware cluster, enterprise storage, information security and just about anything that touches the Internet.

This was a number of years ago up on Yosemite Point (the tall peak directly to the right of Yosemite falls if you're looking at it from the bottom.

The reason for the goofy pose is:

  1. The camera is on a self timer.
  2. That drop-off 18" from my left foot is a 2500' shortcut to the valley floor.

Kihei, Wailea area? Cant tell the distance to the mountains in the background, but maybe youre as far south as Makena or as far north as Cam 1? Sorry, Im a Maui addict and have been there many times ;)

Good eye - that was taken at Po'olenalena Beach in Makena, where my wife and I were Maui'd (the Princess Bride minister just popped into your head, didn't it?). :) Been to Maui many times, don't plan on ever stopping, and will eventually retire there (Kihei, likely). Like that old proverb said, if there is a heaven on earth, it is there.

I'm starting to believe that most of us are actually from the greatest city in the world. ;) Needless - Father of 2, manage an engineering group, coach HS and amateur hockey, take photos, and have a fish tank.

On occasion, I find time to still do this.

I know a few news and sports announcers from my younger days. The "09 season gave me some time to visit with some. A pic of Sid from the parade included also.

I wasn't able to make it out for the parade, but hopefully there will be another one soon enough. My father's a hockey sports writer out here, so I've been around the sport my entire life. My wife thinks I'm nuts when she sees me pacing around the living room during a rivalry game in the middle of the regular season, lol.

i was raised in minnesota. i played hockey in high school. does that count?

man I just don't get on these boards that much anymore and missed this. My name is Louis and I live in Alaska. I'm born and raised in NY just outside the city but I've been up here for 12 years. I started with film many years ago. I was shooting with 35mm, medium format stuff (up to 6x9) and dinkered with some large format. I was always out shooting many years ago but like Doug I have just not been shooting as much as I used too. Have new hobbies taking up time, then there's the day job that always seems to spill over into the evening or more. Nothing like working for yourself right? :). I've had a few images published and still sell images now and then but the truth is I love my day job so photography is really just a hobby that makes me some money. My old website is http://www.greene-art.com, or you can see other stuff here http://www.iptalaska.com/Pages/blog_pages/2011/blog_page_13.html
