Hey all...wanted to inform the local group about FREE software a fellow reefer has offered up to be used with a ReefKeeper 1 or 2 controller!

When connected to a PC...you can monitor and log, Temp and PH. (realtime display)
As well add additional specs, livestock, etc.

I loaded this up last weekend and WOW! very nice software!
you can even set it up to email you if something is out of whack, as well have internet access to view your specs online! :D :D

PS you can use the software without a controller, but you will add your own information.

Here is the link to the thread thus far...Version 1.72 is available for download!

Rich, is there any chance can you do me a favor? Can you setup your controller so that outlets #1 & #4 are on and #2 & #3 are off then check your log and tell me if you get an '@' symbol instead of a hex value for the first digit of the controller status word?

i'll check it this weekend for ya and PM you what happens?

you liking the software? any problems getting it loaded up?
i kept getting an error and found out i was on the wrong com channel!

Working great now.

ReefTool is awesome; far superior to the logging software from DA. Cameron is doing a fantastic job with it.

The email and webserver/ftp upload features are very helpful. I like being able to check on it anytime.

You can see my controller at: http://www.wideopenwest.com/~ppurcell

It's kinda messed up right now because I keep disconnecting it though.

The issue I'm having is that my controller is logging an invalid character when outlets 1&4 are on with 2&3 off, so I'm not getting any historical reporting when these two outlets are on vs. off. I can infer that they are on, because the only time the first four outlets will only report as off is when 1 and 4 are on, but that is just dumb.

How many of you use the ReefKeeper?

How many of you use the ReefKeeper?

I have been considering buying one, but I am in information overload. Are their better options available? Thoughts? Feedback?

In my opinion there are probably better controllers (aquacontroller III pro comes to mind) but what you get with the RK2 for the price is pretty hard to beat.

The product isn't without its problems though. I have tripped over a couple of issues which DA hasn't gone out of their way to take care of.

Overall, if I was going to buy a new controller today it's about a 50/50 whether I'd buy this again or plop down a bit more cash for something else.

The biggest issue I have with the RK2 is the lack of external signal inputs and that it cannot be expanded to individually control more than 8 outlets.

Thanks. The Aquacontroller III Pro looks great. I want something that will pretty much run the system for me. This looks like it will get it pretty close.

You are welcome to ask as many questions as you want. But I am going to bet that you won't need to ask many, it's a pretty easy device to configure.

NewKid630, I am using it to control my calcium reactor. I've been considering switching it to monitor the tank instead and using a sms122 to control the reactor.

Got'R up and running this weekend!

Ignore the PH spike, i did that purposely!

Mike, LMK when it shows up and we'll get ya going!

Can you believe Cameron sold the software to Neptune? Wow, that was quick.

I really like the software and hope that Neptune supports it and continues to improve upon it.

I guess that explains why there haven't been any updates in the past week. I guess that means there aren't likely to be any new features for RK2 users. That or we will have to pay to use any future versions of the app.

It is interesting that he says he didn't make any money off of the app. Personally, if I had made something that cool and useful and had invested as much time as he has, I wouldn't give it away. Especially since you can pretty well bet that Neptune won't be giving it away for free...

I wonder if they bought it so that DA wouldn't have a product to compete with Aquanotes or if they actually are going to continue to support ReefTool.

So can I use one of these to monitor my tank(s) when I am away from home? How would that work?

I'm sure they'll support it for $69.99 or higher....

Not with ReefTool you can't.... But you can still download the relatively limited logging tool from Digital Aquatics. But it doesn't include 20% of the cool functionality Cameron put into ReefTool. My bet is that Neptune takes whatever interesting bits that are in it that they don't already have in Aquanotes and buries the rest. There is nothin in it for them if they help DA sell more ReefKeeper controllers.

The more I think about this the more irritated I am getting with DA. Those guys burn me up.
