i have two aquapods i really don't need. obviously i got these for attending the frag swap at f&s but i can't give them away because they are really handy to have around for a frag tank, qt tank, or whatever.

a 12g - several years old but hardly used. i ran it as a qt tank for a little while and used it as a frag tank for the swap but really don't need it -these sell for over 200$ these days - i'll take 75$

1 24g - never used. this is the one i got from the frag swap with the cool round pc fixture. these sell for about 250$ with the standard hood and are not available modded out with the hanging pc pendent - i'll take 125$

a 30 gal (i think, maybe 37 ??, don't remember) standard tank useful as a sump for someone - free to a good home

Tunze 6000 pump. this is an awesome pump. 1800 gph or controlable. this pump blows maximods, koralias, rios and all the other cheap pumps out of the water. works great and i'll throw in a magnet. the only reason i'm selling it is because i just bought another tunze 6100 and have all the flow i need. if noone wants it i'll either sell it on rc or keep it as a spare. - i'll take 150$ this is a good price, i payed 180$ 3 months ago

So you are looking to make a large profit on these even though you got them for free.

They don't sound free to me - more like payment for services. The events would not be as successful without frag swap vendors. In return for taking one of the slots (yes, I know there is more demand than slots), he was "paid" with these. Spending the time to take your frags to a swap (and back home at the end if they don't go) and spending the day(s) at the show is worth something.

But arent you "selling" stuff there, thus making a profit. So really at the end of the day, you are getting paid double for your efforts. My only point is that as a part of a "club", if you recieve something free, and others know you got it for free, to try to turn a large profit on it says something about you. If you try selling them for $20, just to make it worth it, I would agree, but to sell for normal used prices is different. Just my point of view. Others have tried on this site, and been criticized for it(no not me).

sorry if i offended you hens and i don't even know why i'm responding to your comments, but maybe my responding to such criticism does say something about me...

as i said, i really don't need to sell these tanks - regardless of how i got them, i own them, i like them, and will keep them, if noone wants them. its not about making money off them - it is about selling them for what i feel they are WORTH to me to part with. someone who would like to set up a nano has an opportunity here to get basically new tanks for less then half price, and if someone really wants them maybe at the meeting we can discuss that price. and don't forget these tanks have pumps, heaters, lights - all equipment that i could use myself.

also notice the free tank... i have no use for it - it is a perfectly good tank i'm willing to give to someone (btw someone has claimed it already). it has no value to me but is worth something to the person who is getting it

if you have other comments for me please take the to pm, and you are still welcome to come to the meeting even if you don't want the tanks

He does have the right to determine his own price, the fact that he disclosed how he acquired them and at what price is a testament to his honest character. He also has the right to receive, if he is going to seek, the going rate that the market will bare. If no-one is interested at this price, he has the right to decide to keep it or change the price.

Per Reef Central policy on selling, it is considered rude and inappropriate to comment on the price someone has asked to receive for something especially in the thread publicly. The policy is intended as such, that you should keep your approval or disapproval to yourself and NOT dis-suade or discourage other potential buyers. (IE: ...move on quietly if your not interested for some reason.)

Reef Central does not state that you cannot make a profit off of something your selling, they just state that you cannot do so as a business, repeatedly, purchase something with the intent to resell for profit, and that it must be reef related.

Perhaps you should re-read the policy Hens4fish.

I have worked with John in the past on several projects. He is always more than fair and has ALWAYS been honest and straight forward with me. In his direct defense, perhaps he has expenses he incurred during the event that he acquired these tanks. Just a thought for consideration.

Try telling me what my time is worth once...

...And in 16 plus years in this hobby, I have had losses in all 16 years and never shown a profit. According to the IRS, after I deduct the % of the home depreciation, % of the property taxes, the amount of the utilities this hobby consumes, I have a loss each and every year when applied to the 100$ or less I made. Unfortunatly it is only deductible to the extent of revenue earned.
