For those of you that make trips to the beach for critters...

Well I am in Brevard and I wana get some stuff too! The only places I know are Sebastian inlet by the rocks have lots of hermits and such and a Island that you cant get to unless you have a boat has some stuff. But if anyone knows any more I am working on my boat now and I go someday
 
If not West Palm, what about Sebastian Inlet?

The trouble is, most of the best spots for collecting are in their low season. I know its been rather warm here, but the fish still moved out into deeper water, and in some cases farther off shore. Even the lagoon is running with a bit less diversity from seine nets at the moment.

I have been to Sebastian Inlet once. It wasnt impressed at all really. I mean there was a lot of hermits and few fish. The only kewl fish I saw was a few blennys. Im down with taking a trip there also, if anyone wants to go. I think its 7 or 10 bucks to take the boat ride there also.

Im down with taking a trip to the keys, but I want to go with someone that has a boat and I want to get re certified in diving before that trip. Is there anyone on here that knows what it cost to get certified now a days.
 
Dang thats crazy. I was thinking it would be at the most $200. I cant believe how the price of things have gone up. I think when I first got certified 17 or 18 years ago it was 50 bucks. That included the 2 dives in the springs. lol Man times have changed.

For a refresher I do not think it would cost that much.. but call around and check. Some of the dive organizations dont recognize certs if they are really old. Refresher courses are less than $100.. PADI calls it a tune-up.

Maybe you werent looking in the right spot near Sebastian? During the summer and fall I was pulling lookdowns, puffers of several species, the odd four spot butterfly, seahorses, lots of lagoon fish, sea robins, grunts, unknown gobies, pistol shrimp, plenty of other shrimp of unknown species, rock blennies, etc etc. Not exactly all great tank fish, but cool to catch and make for a great day.

Then there's the plant life. ;)

what can you catch in Sebastian? ans also, that Peanut Islans looks HUGE< is there any particular area that is secluded and full of life? (reef)AND where is it located (how far of a drive from orlando)
 
Did not know you wanted a refresher course. Of course it is going to be cheaper than if you wanted to do everything over again.
 
That sounds like a good weekend to me.

I want to take the whole course again. I got certified back when I think i was 12 or 13. So its been many years since the last time. I might as well just start over.

Seth, if that was for me, that was with a seine net in 3-4 ft of water. Seagrass areas mostly, a little rubble, no actual reef. Must avoid the fire coral that is living in some spots there. We should look into legalities perhaps.. it is a state park. When I did this previously it was for an employer, so we had special permits.
