Makes no difference if your tank is barebottom when your sump has lots of live rock . I found that putting some white sand on the barebottom was a big improvement in the appearance and there was a big increase in the brightness due to the reflectance of light on the white sand.
I don't think there's too many BB people in the CMAS forum. You would probably be best off asking in RD or the SPS forum.
The key with BB is to cook your rock, setup your flow so any detritus is sent to your skimmer, keep your rocks clean by blowing them with a powerhead every so often, keep up with water changes, and siphon out any detritus that settles. It sounds like a lot of work, but it isn't.... and IMO it's well worth it.
I am currently running bare bottom for the first time. My tank has only been running for about 7 months now. I am amazed at how much sediment and detritus comes out of the rock. I have almost now bioload and am currently battling Cyno(starting to get better). I am currently giving major thought to turning a large area of my sump into a Deep sand bed for Denitrification. I dont have much problem with micro algae strangly enough.
