For those wanting better performance out of their skimmer....

OK it looks like we're going to meet at my house at 6pm to do the mods first and head to dinner afterwards...Sound like a plan?

I wanted to run a couple of things by you guys first. For those that are bringing Sedras, you'll need to bring pairs of snips to cut the needles off your impeller assemblies- I only have one pair and they suck! With everyone coming, we'll more than likely need multiple pairs. That goes for regular scissors we well. The mesh material came in yesterday so I've got that and the zip ties covered. Any other questions, comments etc just post em here...

How much cash would you like?

I'll be at your place, just can't do this afterhours festivities.

What kind of snips? Tin snips? wire cutters?

isn't that what I said? :-P

By snips I mean the little things that look like pliers but have sharp edges instead :-) "Xacto" knives should work as well....

I guess I dont understand the project. Would it imporve my duel becket? Pump is an iwaki

Clark, I saw that skimmer in action at John's house...it seemed sporadic in it's foam head at times. I have a suggestion that might really improve it's performance for you and it won't cost too much:

I think there is a lot of turbulence for some reason on that skimmer that creates inconsistency. I think the easy solution to try would be to put a 1/4" acrylic plate with a bunch of holes drilled in it to put at the base of the skimmer. This would act as a diffuster plate and would stabilize the foam head, I think.

Dave, do you mean right over the inlet tubes or higher up in the skimmer itself. It skims very very well but its a ***** to keep adjusted.

Would I just get a piece of acrylic drill it full of holes and seal it along the edges?

Thanks

I think the lower the plate can go in the skimmer, the better it will perform. You could email or PM Geo and tell him what is going on and he might be able to advise you better since he built it...I imagine he could to the plate for you as well.
